amounting to around 33,000 head, prob
ably two-thirds of this estimate consist

draggy from the start, but the packer
buyers evidently needed a lew strings oi
good killing Iambs and this branch of the
trade ruled generally steady. Good fat
lambs are selling largely around $16 50

fat sheep, best ewes being quotable up to

demoralized owing to refusal of several
railroads to accept shipments and prices
ruled 2550c lower, desirable feeding
lambs had to sel at $1 3. 50 13.75.

Chicago Grain aad Provisions.
Chicago, Aug. I Frantlo buying of
grain and provisions today resulted from
the momentous decision reached last
night at Washington that the govern
ment would not be Justifed In selling the
1.000,000,000-bushel 1919 wheat chop of the
United States at a loss of 50 to 75 rents
a bushel. Steep advances due to the rush
to buy quickly took place today in the
value of all cereal and other products.
Closing quotations were strong with corn
up 7 to I cent a bushel, September
$1814 to $1.83 and December $1.61 to
$1,614. Oats gained lc to 4Hc, net,
and provisions 47 cents to $1 90.
Inasmuch as a majority of the corn
traders has sold right and left yesterday
on a generally accepted belief that the
government would throw on the federal
treasury the burden of the proposed de
liberate loss on wheat, the consequence
today of a directly opposite course on the
part of the government was a wild
stampede to the buying side of the
market. It wa not until prices had
risen In some caaes a much aa 10 cents
that the advance of corn was checked.
Even then, comparlaons were chiefly with
the fact that, during the last week there
had been a previous break of 32 cents.
Numerous attempt which during the
rest of the session were made to force a
bearish reaction proved unavailing owing
largely to crop .damage report and to
absence of country offerings.
Oats jumped in sympathy wltrf corn.
Besides, there was some buying for ex
port. Provisions responded to the ssme factors
which hoisted grain. A feature in the
provision market wa evidence of for
eign buying of lard.

New York. Aug. 6 The many substan
tial gains made by today less active
stock market were regarded as sn outward
expression of tho more cheerful mood of
financial Interests, no less than the bet
ter sentiment which prevailed ln specu
lative circles.
Opinion respecting the gravity of the
railroad labor situation were considerably
modified as the result of a statement
attributed to one of the labor leaders that
the prospects of a general trlke are re
mote. ' '
Wall treet seemed hopeful that con
ferences between administration official
and representatlvea of the railway brother
hoods would be productive of a definite
snd latlsfactory outcome and reflected
this felling by Its consistent support of
transportation shares.
Greater ease of money, call loans fall
ing to 3 per cent after opening at 6 to
64 per cent, and Increased activity at
the steel mill Included the other encour
aging developments.
Further demoralization In the foreign
exchange market, with franc at a new
low record, was almost the sole disquiet
ing feature, but even that acute situation
failed to exert a material Influence over
the stock market
In numerous instances from one-half to
two-thirds of the losses sustained In the
early days of the week were regained.

Dated Jul) 1st 1919 Due Jul) 1st 1944
Interest payable January 1st and July 1st
Coupon bonds in denominations of $1 ,000 and $500, registrable as to principal only
Principal and interest payable at the office of Brown Brothers Sr Co., New York, the Fiscal
Agents of the Loan, in gold coin of the United Stales of America of or equal
to the standard of weight and fineness existing on July 1st 1919
Payable without deduction for any Danish Governmental or municipal taxes or other
Danish taxes present or future.
The Loan is to be repayable, by means of yearly payments of
$750,000 in United States gold coin, to be made in the year 1925,
and in each year thereafter during the life of the Loan. Such
payments will constitute the sinking fund of the Loan, and

redemption at par of bonds whose numbers are to be determined
by lot.
The City may at its option increase the amount of any sinking
fund payment. .
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is the chief seaport and leading commercial City of
the Kingdom. Situated on one of the largest harbors of Europe at the entrance to the Baltic Sea,
it holds a strategic position for world trade. The City has by far the most important free port in
Scandinavia, an advantage of much consequence in the commerce of Northern Europe.' From
1895 when the Free Port was established, to 1913, the last full year before the war, the annual
tonnage entering Copenhagen increased from 260,096 tons to 1,801,299 tons. The population of
the City is 550,000. This is nearly one-fifth the population of the entire Kingdom.
Loans of Copenhagen have always been held in high favor among European investors. In
normal times these loans were issued at rates of interest of 3' and 4. The total debt of
Copenhagen including the present issue is approximately $89,879,200. The debt of the City
has increased relatively little during the entire war period. We are advised that no other foreign (
loan will be issued by the City within one year.
We offer these bonds when, as and if issued at
93Yz and accrued interest
yielding, according to the redemption dates for which they may be drawn by lot for payment at
par, ($750,000 bonds to be drawn each year) as follows:
