Stockingless Women Halt
Traffic on Farnam Street
"Human Semaphore" Over
come When New Paris
Vogue is Adopted by
Omaha Shoppers.
The stockingless woman has ap
peared in Omaha.
Two stylishly attired women
stepped aboard a Dundee car at Six
teenth and Farnam .streets yes
terday with substantial evidence
that neither wore stockings.
Traffic Officer J. J. Dudley, the
human semaphore at that intersec-
tion, was so overcome for a few mo
ments that his long arms lost their
cunning and he asked a pedestrian
if he saw. the same sight.
These women moved along non
chalently and seemed to be quite
oblivious to the attentions directed
toward them. It was something new
to Omahans, who read, however,
that stockingless women had ap
peared in New York and Paris.
These intrepid pioneers of the
vogue in Omaha were about 25
years old, one a brunette and the
other a blond. Each carried a shop
ping bag and both walked from
a department store on Sixteenth
Street to the street car.
The area of visibility between
their slippers and skirts was about
eight inches as measured by the
eyes of a mere man who under
stands suchj measurements.
