quest and moved freely again this morning
at steady to strong figures. Good to prime
kind bringing largely 116.00 18.00, early
bids on grasa beef showed a lower trend,
but sales made up to this time looked
about steady at yesterday's decline. The
better kinds of feeders moved with a fair

Chicago Live Stock and Provisions.
Chicago, July 22. With hog prices to
day equalling the lopmott level ever
touched, the corn market developed cor
responding strength, and closed firm mc
to 3$c net higher, with September $1.94
to $1.96 and December 11. 65"4 to tl.65t.
Oats gained c to ltc and provisions 12c
to 60c.
Corn promptly followed the steep ascent
made by the hog market. Even If there
had been no other incentive than the ac
tion of hog values, buylngof corn would
have been greatly stimulated. As a mat
ter of fact, however, the bulls put much
stress also on reports of crop damage said
to have already resulted from prevailing
dry hot weather. Advices from the south
west told of leaves curling ana ot ootioms
firing because of the lack of moisture. At
Despite want of export demand, oats
took an upward swing with corn. Coun
try offerings were mainly held higher than
the market.
Provisions derived strength from grain
and hogs. Business, however, was of only
a scattered sort.

New York, July 22. Stocks rsllied sub
stantially today from their severe setback
of the previous session, to the discom
fiture of an over-confident short Inter
est, which seemed of the opinion that
technical conditions ravored a protracted
reversal.
Recoveries were most pronounced In
speculative issues which sustained great
est losses during yesterday's heavy Bell
ing, notably oils, motors and kindred
shares. On the rebound some of these
stn:l,s were can-led forward 3 to 8 points.
Unusual activity was shown by the sec
ondary or low grade rails, over half a
score of which joined In the general Im
provement at gains of one to two points,
but dividend-paying rails were apathetic
though decidedly firm.
General news was more encouraging and
distinctly helpful to the long account.
Call money denoted Increased ease, metals
were quoted at yet higher prices and
threatened labor troubles lu the steel and
lion Industry lost some of their more
serious aspects.
The market paused for a brief period

closing prices among leaders. Including

fractions of the day's maximum quotations.
Sales amounted to 1,476,000 shares.
