Hartford, as 4 3 0 Payne, r 2 1 01 Omaha took the first game of the double-header at Rourke park by the close score of 6 to 5, in one of the very best games seen on the local lot in a long while. It was a nip and tuck battle throughout, Wichita using two heavers in a desperate ef fort to win, but their mighty trials availed them naught, for the Rourkes were determined and would not be denied. Every player was on his toes throughout the game and made it hart' for batters to get anything by them. The fans settled down for a hot old mill in the second encounter, but were sadly disappointed. The clubs went two innings without a score, Until two men were out in the Rourkes' half. Then they broke loose and with two walks, an error, a double and a single, counted four. It looked rosy for Omaha then and when Ilazen popped to first, nothing was said. A bitter awakening was on tap for them in the third. Pitcher East was the first batter and he grounded out to Jackson. Wilhoit doubled to cen ter and Washburn scored him with another double. McBride singled, scoring Washburn. Mueller singled and McBride counted, Mueller going to second on the play at home. Ne washa skied to right field and Muel ler took third on the out. Yaryan singled and Berger tripled, Marr walked and East on his second turn at the plate, singled. Wilhoit sin gled, making his second hit in that frame, but washout at second on Washburn's grounder to Mason. Eight runs on seven hits was too much for the Rourkes and they ap parently lost heart. Three more run on two hits in the fifth and one score on three hits in the eighth, ...... ,! it m,L;, ccnrB 11 tn I Burke, cf 4 uu..u , up, ....u.h , I Tho'son. 3b 1 Boehler, lb 4 Collins, c 4 Xutt.
