If you take your cooking spec- i laclea with you as you journey around the country, you find rliany little odds and ends of culinary in terest I have been not so many miles away, but in my short wan derings, I found a few new ideas. Perhaps you, dear Reader, know them already; if so, just greet thera as old friends. Preserved Cherries in Jelly. Cook sour pitted cherries vin a very heavy sirup, drain from' the simp and put into sterilized jelly glasses. Fill the glasses with any desired tart jelly. This makes a delicious preserve. The cherries 1 " tasted were put up in currant jelly, but any other kind would be deli cious. Prune Cake. lit e. prune pulp, K e. butter or lightly aweetned. substitute. 1 e. sugar. t. baking powder. SH e. flour. 1 t. cinnamon. t aoda. H t. cloves. Cream the fat, add sugar. Sift flour, soda, baking powder and spic es and add alternately with the prune pulp. Bake in a moderately hot oven. This cake will keep moist for a long time. Hazlemere Salad. Cut rings of chilled cantaloupe and remove the rind. Place a ring of cantaloupe on a bed of lettuce -and fill with any desired fruit salad mix ture. Serve with a whipped cream dressing. An Easy Combination. If you want an easy dinner ombi nation, try baked chopa and onions. This dish with potatoes baked in the oven at the same time, provides a good meal with a few dishes left as reminders. Put a thick layer of sliced onions in a baking dish, and cover with pork chops. Salt and pepper the chops and put into a hot oven for 15 minutes, then lower the flame f5r 45 minutes. The fat of the pork will dry out into the onions and the onions are watery enougn to supply the liquid. Near the end of the baking, it is wise to remove the cover of the dish, and let the meat brown well. Cantaloupe for Breakfast. Srve half cantaloupes filled heap ing with raspberries. A specially nice combination. Cream may be served or not as desired. An Easy Luncheon pish. Hot cooked rice. Meat gravy. Salt, pepper, and butter. Season the rice and put into greased molds. At a formal dinner, I was served a' delicious cream puff with the main course. The puffs were filled with slightly sweetened cream. Not a very good addition to a heavy din ner, from a health standpoint, but it certainly tasted fine. Another Labor-Saver. If you want to save more work, and can afford a 'moderate invest ment, get the divided platters that many hotels and restaurants are using. These platters are made round or oval and are divided into three or four compartments. Thus the meat, potatoes and vegetables are placed on the one dish, thereby saving not only serving dishes, but all Side dishes. It is even possible to serve a salad in one of the com partments. And the platters are mighty attractive, too. For a Camp Breakfast Cut pieces of bacon into squares and fry with some chopped onion. When done add finely-chopped po tatoes and cook without stirring un til a heavy crust is formed at the bottom of the pan. Then turn over as an omelet onto a hot platter.
