Chicago, July 15. It was a see-saw market today in corn, with support en countered on all tho setbacks, whereas offerings increased on all bulges. Prices rinsed unsettled, ic net lower to a like advance Sept. $1.95Vi to $1.95 and December $1.62 to $1.63. Oats gained Vic to c. In provisions the outcome varied from 2c decline to a rise of 60c. Traders in corn displayed much more caution on both sides of the market than has been the rule of late. Bulls were inclined to go slow in view of the current agitation against inflated values and prof iteering. On the other nand bears suf fering from recent heavy losses, appeared to lock nerve to attempt to press prices downward to any radical extent. Export sales of 600,000 bushels put strength into oats. Provisions were neglected. The scattered character of dealings took away from (imitation changes all apparent significance. PERSONAL. Pools and specu lative interests generally were again in undisputed control of the stock market today, resuming their bullish operations in the face of devellpments which ordi narily would have given rise to no little concern. Absolute demoralization In the foreign market, as evidenced by the acute weak ness of rates on London and Paris and Increased discrimination against Indus trial collateral caused only occasional In terruption to the market's further ad vance. Yesterday's favorites, notably Crucible Steel, Baldwin Locomotive and Stuts Mo tor, were again prominent but less sen sational in their movements. Numerous miscellaneous shares contributed to the increased dealings, rails, also manifesting strength, but losing ground later, when leaders reacted one to two points. Shippings were under persistent pres sure, reflecting the disturbing conditions In that industry, and oils were variable, while metals made but slight response to the generally high prices quoted for Au gust deliveries. Net gains of three to almost 12 points were made by American, Sumatra and Lorlllard Tobaccos, American Woolen, Central Leather, the two classes of Beth lehem Steel common, Crucible Steel, Gulf States Steel, Cuban-American Sugar, U. S. Industrial Alcohol and Sears-Roebuck. Sales amounted to 1,875,000 shares. Liberty and railway bonds eased sllght lv, internationals holding steady.- Sales (par value), $14,500,00(1. Old United States bonds unchanged on call. Trading reflected less nervousness tn the last half hour, but United States Steel and a few other leaders were one to two points under their best on freer offer Ings. The closing was strong. Equipments and the several groups of 1 neace Industrials were the chief features of today's broad and active stock market at gross gains or two to almost ten points. Sales approximated 1,760,000 shares. WOMAN uAlTLES WITH BURGLAR UNTIL FELLED Thug Hits Miss Gladys Yount With Club When Caught Rifling Her Bedroom Miss Gladys Yount, 22 years old, grappled desperately with a burg'ar at 4 o'clock yesterday morning in her room at 2118 Davenport street and fotiRht until the prowler felled her with a club. An automobile filled with police officers passed the house at the time of the struggle. Hearing the woman s screams the policemen rushed into the place. They found the young woman un conscious. The burglar had es caped. His club, a short piece of broom stick wrapped with leather, was found on the floor. The motive for the intrusion was robbery. The burglar escaped with Miss ounts pocketbook, contain ing $9, and several pieces of valu able jewelry. Miss ount believes the man wa? in her room several minutes before she sensed his presence. "I was not sure whether anyone was in the room or not when I got out of bed," she said. "Suddenly he grabbed me. I screamed, and he tried to hold his hand over my mouth. I tried to throw him off, and we fought for several minutes before I seemed to faint, and then the next thing I knew the police were there." The burglar entered Miss Yount's room by an open window. Her room is on the ground floor. She thinks he escaped through the front door of the house. She was unable to tell police whether her assailant was a negro or a white man, and knows only that he was short and stout. Miss Yount's condition as a result of her struggle with the burglar is not serious. The blow from the club failed to do more than stun her.
