FINANCIAL
New Tork, July 14. The week on the
Stock exchange opened with a continua
tion of last week's buoyant and varied
dealings, further heavy buying resulting
from the large accumulation of orders
over the recess.
Again the movement appeared to be
based on easy financial conditions and the
numerous optimistic surveys and opinions
from various sections of the country, these
being tempered in a measure, however, by
Indications of further crop deterioration.
Last we.k's bank statement probably
was an added factor with Its increase of
excess reserves. Call money held most
of the session at 6 to 64 per cent, but
the rate for all Industrials rose to 10 per
cent Just before the close, even 12 being
paid for small loans.
Western and southwestern speculative
Interests were credited with much of the
new buying, which concentrated to an
unwonted extent In equipments compre
hending the steel and Iron shares and
motors and their specialties.
Leaders (f the movement, which lost
little of Its vigor despite extensive realis
ing for profits, included Crucible Steel at
a net gain of 17 points, and Baldwin Loco
motive and Stutz Motors, each gaining 10
points, with the latter at a new maximum.
Bethlehem Steel, American Car, Ameri
can Locomotive, Central Leather, leading
coppers and allied metals and several of
the motor subsidiaries participated In the
movement at 2 to 6 point gains, but rails
were relatively backward and shippings
failed to retain their early gains. Sales
amounted to 1,850,000 shares.
Greater weakness was displayed by ster
ling exchange, francs also yielded and the
general trend of foreign remittances was
favorable to this country.
Liberty bonds were steady, but the bond
list as a whole was without material
change. Total sales, par value, aggregated
$11,175,000. Old United States bonds un
changed on call.

Chicago Grain and Provisions.
Chicago, July 14. Welcome rains eased
the corn market today after an early ad
vance. The market closed unsettled, at a
decline of c to 2c net, with September
11.96 to $1.95 and December 11.62 to
11.63. Oats finished o to c down. In
provisions the outlook ranged from 80c off
to a rise of 15c.
Until news came that moisture had been
supplied In Kansas. Iowa, and In other im
portant sections where there was need,
the corn market showed decided upward
tendency. However, sentiment changed
quickly after selling was started by dis
patches telling of rains. Houses with
southwestern connections were leaders then
in demonstrating that at least for the time
being the market had been overbought
Better weather for oats as well as for
corn brought about a late setback In tha
oats market.
Provisions wsre swayed chiefly by the
action of corn. Trade war dull, pending
fresh developments In regard to export
requirements.
