Herbert Farmer, the crack 16-year-old
southpaw of the Meyers
Bearcats, leaders of division 3 of the
Omaha Bee Junior Base ball asso
ciation, is probably the happiest
youngster in Omaha today and will
be for some time to come, as he
performed a remarkable feat yester
day on the base ball field by regis
tering the first no-hit-no-run game
thus far this season in the associa
tion. !
Besides denying the Walnut Hill
Merchants any hits or runs, he sent
18 of their star batters back to the
plate via the strikeout route, while
his teammates landed hard on J.
Hughes and D. Dagnelin. The final
score was 20 to 0.
Farmer, who is a little fellow, has
pitched great ball thus far and is
practically responsible for the many
victories won by his team.
Bert McAuliffe, star hnrler for the
Dorcas Street Stars, nearly pitched
a no-hit game against the Leaven
worth Merchants Juniors, but Ma
thews, with thre men on bases in the
third round, cracked out a two-bagger
and sent in three runs. The
Stars won by a 6 to 4 score. Mc-i
Auliffe struck out 14 men.
The other games in division 2
were of the forfeit order, the Omaha
Bee forfeiting to the Farnam Candy
company and the Slogrs Juniors to
the Omaha Taxi.
Although Louis Semerad, former
manager of the Riverview Cubs,
who are in second place in Division
3, sent in word that his team had
disbanded and would withdraw from
the league, this report was untrue,
according to Charles Brown, who
was appointed manager. Semerad
has been released and the Cubs will
remain in the league for the re
mainder of the season. Yesterday
morning they defeated the Deer
Park Ramblers by a 14 to 6 score.
In Division 1, the Superbas took
revenge for the 13 to 3 defeat hand
ed them by the West Dodge Dairy
at the opening of the season and
yesterday defeated their rivals, 10
to 7, due to the great pitching of
McEvoy. By their victory they are
tied with the West Dodgers for first
honors. Other games in this loop
were as follows: The W. O. W. de
feated the Charles Street Mer
chants, IS to 1, and the Locust
Street Merchants won from the
Fort Omaha Merchants, 14 to 9,
while the Kaiman Insurance Co.
won a forfeit game from the R. A.
M.'s.
The twilight game between the
Omaha Taxi-Leavenworth Mer
chants scheduled for tonight has
been called off and will be played at
a later date.
Reds' Double Victory Ousts
Giants From First Place
New York, July 6. The New
York Nationals were ousted from
first place today for the first time
since May 16, Cincinnati's double
victory over Pittsburgh giving the
Reds a one point advantage over
the Giants. The New York Ameri
cans, who retained their leadership,
made a season record of 101 hits
last week, but these sent only
enough men across the plate to win
six games out of ten, a pace easily
met by Chfcago.

Crowd of 18,000 Spectators
See 13 Inning Game Between
Holmes and Nebraska Power
Largest Crowd in History of Omaha Amateur Base Ball
Witness Hot Contest at Thirty-second and Dewey;
Error Wins Game for White Sox; Other Good
Battles During Day.
By WILLIAM O. BLOZIES.
One of the best staged games in
local amateur base ball circles this
second and Dewey avenue yesterday
est crowd that ever witnessed an
amateur contest in this city, was
played on the battlefield at Thirty
second and Devey avenue yesterday
afternoon by the Ernie Holmes
White Sox and the Nebraska Power
Co., both teams representing the
Greater Omaha league, the crack
class A circuit, of the Municipal
Amateur Base Ball association,
which resulted in a 1 to 0 victory
for the White Sox after 13 innings
of fast and exciting base ball.
It was estimated that over 18,000
spectators witnessed the contest
and nothing but praise for both
teams was heard when the battle
was over. From start to finish the
anxious fans were on their feet and
rooting for their favorites. For the
first eight innings there was no sign
of any scoring, but in the last half of
the eighth the Holmes had two men
on, but brilliant fielding on the part
of the Power lads kept the White
Hose form scoring.
Error Wins Game.
It took four traffic officers to
keep the crowd from overflowing
the outfield. In the last half of the
thirteenth round, J. Sutej, one of the
best first sackers in the city, led off
with a two-bagger to deep left, and
went to third when Holbrook bunted
safely. Holbrook stole second.
Bogue hit to first and Norgaard
threw Sutej out at the plate, but
Holbrook took third and tallied with
the only run of the game when
O'Keefe was safe at first on
"Blackie" McAndrews' error.
This game, no doubt, will go down
in history as the greatest game ever
seen in the city and, as yesterday
marked the final appearance for the
amateurs at Thirty-second and
Dewey avenue, as the city is putting
through a sewer, the thousands of
fans gave the teams a rousing send-
off as thev left the held.
Throughout the entire game there
was no wrangling and umpire
Gonding umpired a great game. The
fielding of McAndrews at short and
Sutei at first featured for the
Holmes, while Swanson and Ger
nandt's fielding featured for the
Powers. Jimmy Moore, the crack
southoaw. was on the mound tor the
Holmes and pitched great ball, al
lowing but seven hits, bcore:
