LONDOS LOSES
OUT GIVfeS'OIG
LTOTUSSLE
Greek Champion Springs Sur
prise Z on StraniglerXand
Fans, Using CWrist and
! Head Locks.
In one , of the best wrestling
t matches ever een in Omaha, E4
Strangler Lewis defeated Jim Lon
dos of Canton, 0., in two straight
falls, winning the first with a head
lock, with which he throw jLondos
to the fl6or so heavily that he was
practically' knocked out and rolled
on .his back, whereupon Referee
Ernie Holmes patted Lewis on the
back in token of victory after one
hour, 34 minutes and 45 seconds.
Upon returning tpythe'ting Lon
doshad it announced that hebad in
jured, his neck in the first fall but
, would do the best he could and take
the Strangler on for the second
fall. He carried the match "to his
opponent for a time and succeeded
in getting Lewis in two dangerous
V positions', once with a , wrist-lock
ind again with A head-lock. The
Sandow entry finally clamped an
other head-lock on the Greek and
though he was not pinned, he con
ceded the falUn 2? minutes asd 3Q
seconds. " , ; -.-.-j. -V
1 Though out-weighed by at 'least
40 oounds. Londos save 'Lewis the
greatest surprise of hij life, (breadj
ing and getting away from the dead
ly headlock at least, four, times dur
' ing the match, though he finally
succumbed to the grip in both falls.
. The Greek clamped the same hold
. on the Strangler several times andsl
it was -with '. consierablei difficulty
that he finally broke the jclamp.
The Greek made a specialty of a
. ' double-wrist lock, " with which : fie
' had his man almost pinned two or
three times. : He escaped in such
', apparently easy fashion from most
of LewisV holds that the Strangler
was exasperated His vicious at
taches were easily warded off, how
ever, by the speedy Greek, who in
turn rushed Lewis, around trying
oi the headlock and wrist-lock.
It was v certainly a fine match,
' fans. It was expected that Londos
," would prove an easy victim , to the
' mighty Lewis but , he surprised
everyone, including the famous
h'ead-lock exponent. Jt was the
consensus of opinion among those
nea rthe ring, that had Lewis been
nearer Londos' weight, the result
. might have been different. At any
rate, Lewis bulk saved him on vari
ous occasion especially 'when the
smaller man had his wrist-lock hold.
The main, event was refereed by
Ernie . Holmes in a very "efficient
manner, and though some xf Lon
dos' supporters thought he should
- havr "o-ivri tVi flretr a fall when he
. had the Strangler in such close posi
tions, it was seen by close observers
that Holmes' judgment was correct.

ON BLUFFS CARD
NEXLTHURSDAY
Charley Peters to Tackle Jack
Gana' in iMain Event;
Miller
Meets
Jack
Solomon.
One week from tonight Charley
Peters, the Sarpy county sheriff,"
will meet Jack Gana, the Firth, Neb.,
heavyweight on - the mat in
the Council Bluffs auditorium un
der the direcjjon of Al Fiori. They
will wrestle a hnish, maten, Dest
two out of three falls.
- That Peters will meet no setup is
evidenced by the record that Gana
displays. He has beaten Pete
Fromme, Chris Sorenson -and a
number of other big men and once
wrestled Champion, Earl Caddock,
losing after 45 minutes of " hard
wrestling.
. The entire card that Fiori will
presentnext Thursday night is one
that xshouW attract a good crowd of
Omaha fans as well as the lovers of
the ' mat , eame in Council Bluffs.
Jack Solomon of Omaha, one of the
popular light-heavyweights a short
time ago, will try a "comeback'
against a youngster, Everett Miller
Of Tabor, la., in a one-fall finish
match. ' ' '
The opening bout will be between
two Council Bluffs lightweight ama
teur wrestlers. This match will be
brimful of pepper, for the simon-
pures always shoot for blood.
Thisvis a card that should make a
fine attraction, for each bout billed
appears as good as either ot the
other two.- Fiori will try the bur
men in the Bluffs for a time and see
if the fans want the heavies rather
than the little" men.
