J ' It involves a carload of beans, 600 bags, which wandered around on the three railroad lines for two months before finally being delivered here. The beans were shipped by the California Packing corporation of Stockton, Cal., on October 12, 1918, consigned to St. Joseph, Mo. While they were on the way the shippers decided to divert them to Simon Brothers company of Omaha In some way unexplained the tele gram was lost or the beans were lost. At any rate they didn't appear, it is alleged, until December 13, 1918, when they arrived in Umaha consigned to Simon Brothers. But when the car was opened the beans were found to have become "has-beens," and Simon Brothers are suing for $2,390.18, the amount of the depreciation. K. of C, In Convention Here, Say Living Wage Not Justice Measure The fifteenth annual Knights of Columbus convention in Omaha Wednesday adopted resolutions de claring that "a living wage is not necessarily the full measure of jus tice. "We demand a legal minimum wage high enough 'to provide not only for present needs of, workers and families, but a surplus that shall be sufficient for adequate savings. We believe that the laborer is a human being, not merely an instru ment of production and that , the laborer's right to a decent living is the first moial charge on industry." Washing dishes for the league?" the police judge asked.' Yeah, I wuz workin at I he League of Nations restaurant on North S'teenth street, jedge," Le Van replied. Youthful Crap Shooters Given Lecture by Judge Police broke uo a crao game in an alley near Twenty-fifth and Elm streets Wednesday night and arrest ed six boys. The raid was made while two of the. boys-stood watch at each end of the alley.
