    R01IRKES OUTHIT,
BUT WIN, PLAYING
GOOD. FAST BALL
Locals Surprise Everyone by
Developing Speedy and
Snappy Throwing to Bases;
Make Three Doubles.
Playing the snappiest game they
have shown at home this season,
the Rourkes walked off with the final
game of the series with Oklahoma
City by a score of 4 to 1. Jap Bar
beau was in the game and his ap
pearance seemed to liven up the rest
of the crowd and they played ex
ceptionally good hall.
Third baseman -Donica starred at
the bat, gathering three bingles in
his four trips to the plate. Kopp out
pitched Stoner in, every way but in
allowing hits. Stoner only gave the
Rourkes 5 clouts while the south
erners gathered in 8. Kopp looked
good in the box, except when ne
butted in on plays that probably
spoiled them. He reached for a hit
to the left of the mound and knocked
it down, crediting the butter with a
hit, when it probably would have re
sulted in a double play had he left it
alone.
Another instance of his "butting
in" came on a play in which the Ok
lahomans secured their only run. He
ran in to the plate and took the
throw from Kirby in left field and
then tossing the ball to Hale-for the
put out, but the delay of the relay
allowed Griffin to slide in safely.
Had Kopp remained in his box and
let 'Hale have the throw, the runner
would have been an easy out.
The purchased player from Mil
waukee, Jap Barbeau, played a stel
lar game. He approached the plate
four times, walked twice, sacrificed
once and popped out to first. He
scored a run and helped demoralize
the Cooties in the first frame. He is
a fast man and a good batter.
Tomorrow, the tail enders of the
league, Wiehit, will play here, with
their manager. Frank Isbell, claim
ing they will do ai"ful things to our
boys in the three game series. Score:

With Wladek Zbyzsko matched to
meet John Pesek at Gordon, Neb.,
on June 14, Charley Moon, the Lin
coln promoter thought it would be
..a roo4 plan to stage a match' with
Zibby as one of the principals, in
Lincoln before the' Gordon affair.
He signed up Charlie Peters the
Papillion carpenter-sheriff and tried
to land the Pole, but Manager Curlev
refused to take a chance with Jack
Lewis's mat.
Finding it impossible to do busi
ness with Curley, Moon wired Mart
Slattery for Pesek's services and a
deal was closed for Pesek to wrestle
Chris Sorenson in Lincoln on May
26, next Monday night. They will
go two out of three falls to a fin
ish. This will be Pesek's last match
until the Gordon bout after which,
he will take Peters on in Council
Bluffs. If Promoter Al Piori of the
Rluffs can find an opponent for
Peters, the sheriff will wrestle over
there before he meets Pesek. Should
Peters be matched in the Bluffs and
lose, his opponent will land ' the
match with Pesek. Slattery has ac
cepted the terms offered by Fiori
and will wrestle whoever can be
secured for him, whether it is Peters
or some one else.
Wichita Here for Three Games.
The Wichita club comes to Oma
ha for the first of a three-game
series with the Rourkes today
with Manager Frank Isbell claim
ing he has one of the best teams in
the circuit, but hasn't had enough
work with his athletes to put them
in their best form. He says he ex
pects them to round into better
shape every day and thinks they are
about ready to start a long winning
streak. "Issy" hopes , to start said
streak with the Omaha club.
At times the 'Witches have sur
prised everyone by taking games
from the leaders of the league in
rather easy fashion, but their form
was only temporary and they soon
lost the ground they had gained.
Isbell has a strong lineup and
should show up better than he has
thus far this season. There may be
some truth in Frank's claims that
his men are not in proper shape, and
if they have reached any good form
at this time will probably make it
real interesting for the locals in
their three games at Rourke park.
The clubs will present the follow

After a one-sided game Commerce
High's base ball team gained the
top rung of the local high school
diamond league championship ladder
by defeating the Central High nine',
5 to 1, yesterday afternoon on the
Muny field, Thirty-second and
Dewey. The South High-Creighton
High contest, played on the Luxus
field, was a real battle, ending 7 to
5 in favor of the Packers after three
extra innings had been played.
Errors proved costly to the boys
from the big school. Although the
business boys pounded McGrath,
Central pitcher, for 10 hits, yet the
majority of bases resulted from er
rors. The Central pitcher was some-
1 what out of form, delivering only
i straight balls. Mahoney also proved

a stumbling block in Central s wav
to the top by disposing of the ma
jority of the boys from the school
on the hill in short order. Central
gained its lone tally by Mangold's
twin bagger that sent Konechy
across the plate. Konechy caught
