Sheep There was a fair run of lambs
here for this time of the year, 80 loads
estimated at 7,000 head. The sheep barn
was a dead place this morning, very few
lambs changing hands until after the noon
hour. There was a decidedly weak under
tone with prospects of supplies moving at
prices 26 14 60c lower than yesterday.

New Tork Coffee.
New York, May 15. The market for
coffee futures today lost almost all of
yesterday's rally during the early trading
owing to reports that Rio 7s had sold at
lower prlcea in the cost and freight mar
ket. The opening was 12 to 20 points
lower, and active months sold about 25 to
35 points under last night's closing fig
ures during the middle of the day, with
September touching 17.80o and December
16.70c. There was covering at this level,
however, and the market later rallied on
reports of a higher market at Santos ow
ing to the removal of Import restrictions
by Holland and Scandinavia. The close
was net 6 points higher to 4 points lower.

Omaha Grain Notes, v
According to a circular Issued to mills
yesterday, commencing May 20 the grain
corporation offices at Portland (Ore ), Min
neapolis, Duluth, Chicago and Buffalo will
have moderate quantities of wheat of cer
tain kinds to resell. At Portland entirely
Pacific coast variety, at Minneapolis noth-)
Ing but durum, and at Duluth, Buffalo and
Chicago, northern spring wheats.
Price Current Grain Reporter says: "Win
ter wheat conditions oontlnue to be with
out complaint. Harvest Is expected to
commence in Texas within a week or 10
days and already some new grain has
moved out of the Imperial valley of Cali
fornia. . Spring wheat seeding In the north
west is nearlng completion, but the weath
er is not favorable in that section. Corn
acreage Is still uncertain, but the reports
seem to Indicate that in the surplus states
there will be no material change from last
year." f
Chicago Grain and Provisions.
Chicago, May 16. Unexpected scarcity
of offerings forced a material advance to
day in the value of corn, although most
dealers seemed to have been looking for
the exact opposite. Priced closed unset
tled, lc to 6o net higher, with July
$1.64 to $1.64, and September $1.66
to $1.56. Oats gained d to lc, and
provisions 5 to 60 cents.
It soon became evident to corn traders
that the action of the government in of
fering wheat for sale at reduced prices
had been largely discounted beforehand.
Besides, opinion rapidly spread that the
effect of the government wheat sales
would be slight and transient Under such
circumstances, the market displayed
strength almost from the outset, espe
cially as country offerings were next to
nothing. Efforts of shorts to protect
May contracts for an unusually sharp up
turn for that month, a result due more or
less to forecasts of unsettled weather. In
this connection, It was pointed out that
Iowa has now had more rain since Feb
ruary 1 than during any corresponding
time in 30 years.
Export sales of 760,000 bushels tended
to hoist the oats market. The Dutch gov.
ernment was said to be the chief buyer.
Provisions took an upward swing with
grain. Weakness In the price of hogs
failed to act as a counter balance.

DEPOSIT IN BANKS
OF OMAHA TODAY
Victory Loan Subscriptions
Caused Considerable De
crease In Amount of, ,
Money Carried In Banks. v'
The call of the comptroller of
the treasury, requesting that banks
report conditions at the close of
business, May 12 ii out. . Omah?
banks have responded. In the ag
gregate this call shows that on the
date indicated, there was the sum
of $133,760,942 on deposit, as against
$139,437,358 when the previous call
was made on March 4 of this year.
The present statement, in the banks,
as compared with that of March 4
indicates a falling off of $5,676,402
in a little more than two months.
According to bankers, the aggre
gate of the deposits at this time is
satisfactory and indicates I healthy
business condition throughout Oma
ha banking territory.
The decrease in the amount of
money on deposit May 12, as com-,
pared with that of March 4, is ex
plained by bankers. In helping the
government to float the Victory
loan, Omaha subscribed In round
numbers $10,000,000 and something
like 50 per cent of this was paid in
cash. To make the payments money
was drawn from' the banks, thus
reducing the total of the deposits.
The loan account of the Omaha
banks indicates that during the peri
od between the previous, and the
call of the comptroller just made,
banks of the city loaned out $84,
120,878, as against $82,848,642, March
4, of this year. This increase of
$1,272,236 Is considered a fair index
of the increase of the business of the "
city, -i," x "
The following tables show the de
posits and loans carried by the re
spective banks, together with a
comparative table for March 4, the
date of the previous call of the
comptroller of the treasury:

Judge Rules In Divorce
Court That Father May
See Son On Sundays
Their- little year-and-a-half old
son, ' Edwin, is the one tie which 1
bound Ethel Dygert 1 and Harold
dygert together. They made a
spirited fight for possession of the
child in the hearing of Mrs. Dygert's
suit for divorce before Judge Troup
in divorce court yesterday.
Judge ; Troup finally awarded
custody of the youngster to the
mother, but with the odd provision
that the father shall have the cus
tody of the little one every Sunday
from 9 o'clock jn the morning until
5 o'clock in the evening, "health and
weather permitting."
Nothing is said in the decree as
to who is to determine whether the
boy's health and the condition of the
weather are propitious. Neither
father nor mother is to take the
child outside of Douglas county.
"I'll certainly be waiting at the
door at 9 o'clock every Sunday
morning to take my boy out," said
the father as he bade the smiling
baby goodby. He is also ordered
to pay $40 a month for the child's
support.
