Drive for Initial Payments

Progress Made.
Washington, April 26. A little
more than $650,000,000 has been sub
scribed to the Victory Liberty loan
and officially tabulated today by the
treasury.
This is about one-seventh of the
$4,500,000,000 sought for the .loan.
Instructions will go out to Liberty
loan workers to make unusual ef
forts next week not only to get
pledges, but to induce, subscribers
to make their initial payments. In
this way it Is hoped to nave by the
end of next week a truer index of
the progress of the subscription
campaign. . S
' A big increase in the subscription
total was reported today by the
Cleveland district.
; Oversubscribed.
' Big oversubscriptions still are re
ported from Michigan and Iowa, the
two state which have reached their
goals.
The battle tank, which plowed 12
miles up Pike's peak to advertise
the loan, tomorrow is scheduled to
climb Lookout mountain at Golden,
Colo., to the grave of the late "Buf
falo Bill" Cody.
Citizens of Sioux City, la., put
their community oyer the subscrip
tion mark by voluntarily going to
the polls used ordinarily as voting
precinct headquarters and entering
their subscriptions systematically.
Oregon leads the state of the
Pacific coast with 27 per cent of its
quota subscribed, and Utah is sec
ond in the San Francisco district
with 20 per cent.

Mabel V. McDonald has obtained
execution of a writ of attachment
issued by Judge Patrick in municipal
court against Joseph L. Causey,
2S08 South Twentv-fourth street.
Mrs. McDonald alleged that
Causey Induced her to come to Oma
' ha from Texas to serve as house
keeper, he being a widower and she
a widow. Their acquaintance began
before either was married.
She further alleged that after she
had cared for the home for a while,
Causey cold the place without hef
knowledge until the new owners
moved in. ,
She told Constable Zach Ellis that
Causey left the heme without advis
ing her of his whereabouts. Her at
tachment on the 'household goods
is based on an alleged claim for $110
wages.
The case as been set for hearing
before Judge Patrick on May 1.

.Archangel, April 26. (By Asso
ciated Press.) Approximately 90
1 soldiers of the North Russian army
who accepted the offer of Major
General Marushewsky, commander
of the Russian forces and governor
general of the region of the north
to permit them to join the bolshe
viki if they had objections to the
Archangel government, have been
sent through 'the. front to the enemy
lines. 1
A dispatch from Archangel April
3 said General Marushewsky had
startled Archangel with an unusual
proclamation intended to call the
bluff of the bolshevik sympathizers
in that territory.. The general of-
fered these persons the choice of a
safe conduct to the bolsheviki line
up to April 10, on their written ap
plication, with the alternative of a
(trial by military court if found with
in the allied military zone after that
date. '

Theft of Cigarets
Governor Hall of Nebraska was
a prisoner before Jndge Troup In
juvenile court - yesterday 'charged
with stealing cigartts front a whole
saler's track last Monday nights
Governor pleaded guilty and after
a lecture by the udge was allowed
to eo and trv to be eood.
Governor is not and never has
been the chief executive of this
state. He is a colored youth of
14 years and lives at 2118 Burdette
street.
With him was Johnnie Duncan,
whose last trip to juvenile court
was just last Saturday when he
solemnly promised to be a law
abiding boy. He admitted that he
was associated with the Governor
in the cigaret stealing enterprise.
"What's the matter with you?
Can't you go straight?" asked the
judge.
'"Yes, if you'll send me to the
country. I swear it."
Johnnie held up a very dirty
right hand and looked extremely
solemn. His mother was present
and said he could go to her sister's
farm. But the court would take no
more dhances on leaving Johnnie
loose , for a day in the city. Mrs,
Puncan was sent to buy the tickets
and when she returned she and
Johnnie were allowed to go to the
train for the farm.
Situation In Budapest
Tense With Many Arrests
Budapest April 26. (By The As

is tense and hundreds of citizens are
being thrown into jail. There have
also been, a few executions, Joseph'
Pugany, one of the soviet leaders,
is making speeches demanding
"blood," and warning Hungarians
who have welcomed Roumanians or
Czechs in invaded districts that
they will be called to account later
for working against the bolshevik
regime.

that we shall scarcely have
