Sheep There were 21 loads of sheep
and lambs here again today, estimated at
4.800 head. The sheep market la a very
lifeless affair, very few of yesterday's
supplies moving until after the noon hour,
and there was a near duplication of this
condition again today. Most of the handy
weight lambs are selling at from $18.76
to $19.20, with heavier weights on down
to $18.00. Aged stuff Is coming In in
very light volume and shows a weakness,
although not quite as much as fat lambs.
Fat ewes are selling at from $14.00 to
$14.60, possibly more for prime kinds.

erally about unchanged on the bulk. Oats
were 14c lower to o higher, the bulk of

Chicago Grain and Provisions,
Chicago, April 24. Corn soared today
to the highest price ever known for a
future delivery, May at $1.71 a bushel.
The political crisis In Europe was largely
nsponslble. Closing quotations were un
settled, 14c net lower to lc advance,
with July. $1.631.63 and September
$1.59 1.60. Oats finished 14 c to lc
down
Although May corn at $1.71 was a new
top record for price for aay future eon
tract, corn for Immediate delivery has in
times past reached far higher, namely,'
$1.85 in January, 1918, and $2.36 in
August, 1917. Today's advance promptly
brought out Increased country offerings
and also heavy profit taking sales. These
factors together with late reperta that a
break at Paris had been halted, caused
a rush of selling after mid-day. Previous
to that time, however, buyers In their
eagerness had carried away everything be
fore them, owing not only to the critical
situation abroad, but also to persistent
strength of hog values here and evidence
of greatly quickened demand for rye and
barleyo substitute for wheat.
Absence of eastern shipping call made
oats relatively slow.
Provisions like corn ascended to new
new high record prices. Realizing set in,
however, and much of the advance was
lost.
