St. Joseph, who 18 months ago, in connection with a bootlegging i gang, foiled po lice and government agents of three states Ih their attempts to arrest him, was fined $10 and costs and given a 90-days jail sentence in po lice court yesterday morning. A partner, Pat Burkey, who gave his address as the Edwards hotel, was given a similar sentence. "Both were arrested ' morning as they were driving a large touring car across the Douglas street bridge. They were booked for vagrancy, driving a car without a license and' for investigation. A number of empty whisky bottles were in the car.- They said they drove from St. Joseph, Mo. Beavers was arrested for trans portation of liquor about- four months after an automobile which he is alleged to have been driving turned turtle near Shenandoah, la. Mae Nace, Omaha girl, who was with Beavers atthe time, was se verely injured, and Beavers escaped. Welfare Board Restores Man's Mental Equilibrium Supt. T. H. Wetrich of the board of public wefare restored the men tal equilibrium of Joseph Pazderka of Comstock, Neb., by finding a railroad ticket in the man's pocket Pazderka became stranded in Omaha. A brother sent .money from Comstock, and he bought a ticket and secreted it so well in his clothes that he could not find it. Worry over the supposed loss caused men tal derangement. Mr. Weirich had the man disrobe and the garments were scrutinized carefully. When the lost ticket was found Paderka's mental processes resumed their normal functions. Mayor Smith's Matrimonial .Bureau Now Shows Results . ! t Mayor Smith's matrimonial bu reau, which he opened three-months ago, is beginning to show results. About the first of this year, Mrs. Katherine Jenkins, 24 years old and a widow, appeared jto the mayor for assistance in finding another mate. The mayor announced the widow's application and many responses were received. T-he luCky man is E. D. Jones, bar ber in the Live Stock National bank building, South Side. After a court ship of two months, Mrs. Jenkins consented to change her name to Mrs. Jones. The wedding occurred at Papililon on Wednesday. . j Spanish War Veterans to Hold State Reunion la May At a meetine Wednesday, night the Spanish-American war veterans selected u delegates to represent Omaha at the "state reunion, to be held in York, May 19-21. Plans were discussed, looking to the observ ance of Memorial day and the dec oration of the graves in the West Lawn cemetery. i v In the section of West Lawn set aside for the burial of Spanish American war veterans, last year a high flag pole was erected. -The recent tornado, leveled the pole.
