Chicago Grain and Provisions.
Chicago. Aorll 17. Evening up for the
holiday tomorrow put the bears at a dis
advantage today in the corn market.
Closing prices were unsettled, but Ho to

Except during brie( Intervals, corn dis
played an upward tendency throughout
and finished at tne top prices oi ine
day, with shorts covering freely. The
chlet incentive for tnis action on me
part of the shorts was continued ad
verse weather likely to interfere with
rural wagon traffio and to damage the
quality of holdings. It waa said numer
ous complaints were at hand from rural
sources that corn waa getting out of con
dition. Besides, reports of car shortage
again attached notice, and there was less
unnrehanslsn that labor difficulties would
curtail tne outxiow or. looasiuus iromj

cially conspicuous In the buying.
Oats hardened with corn and as a re
sult of seeding delays It was said much
reseedlng in Iowa would oe necessary.
Lower Quotations on hogs led to a sharp
setback In the value of provisions. Pork
fell $1.25 a barrel. Rallies which ensued
were ascribed to buying tor pacaers.
