Chicago Grain and Provisions. Chicago. April 15. Eagerness to realize on holdings weakened the corn market after May delivery. Influenced by wet weather, had reached the highest price level this season. The close was heavy, ifi)H4o net lower, with May, $1.689 1.6. and July. $1.62 (61.52. Oats finished (8Ho down. In provisions out come ranged from 15c decline to 9o ad vance. Prospects that the crop movement would be Interfered with by widespread rains gave an advantage at the outset to the bulls In corn. This condition, however, lasted only until a new top price for the season had been established in the May option. Then the general desire, which longs showed to take profits, started the market down. Reports that some cofn arriving here was out of condition led to something of a reaction, but the effect failed to last. Oats reflected the weakness of corn. Provisions like corn, ran up to new high price levels, and then reacted sharply on prifit taking. .... Corn No. 3 yellow, $1.5901.61tt; No. 4 yellow, $1.6791.69; No. 5 yellow, $1.66. The city's principal present hotel, The Alexandria, is entirely unable to supply the demand, and the new California Hotel, ndw in course of construction, is be ing erected to meet an urgent need for additional hotel accommodations of the highest grade. These bonds are directly secured by a closed first mortgage on these properties valued at $6,000,000 described as follows; THE ALEXANDRIA HOTEL Fireproof, seven stories Sn height, containing 700 rooms, located in the heart of the downtown business district. The established net profits of this hotel alone are greatly in excess of the largest annual bond interest charge. The highly valuable long term leasehald is pledged as additional security un der the mortgage. , i THE CALIFORNIA HOTEL Located in the heart of the best residential district of the city, containing 470 rooms, and surrounded by a park of 21 acres of valuable land which is included in the mortgaged security. BORROWING CORPORATION These hotels will be conducted as part of the , D. M. Linnard chain under the same management as the Palace and Fairmont in San Francisco, the Green, Huntington and M aryland of Pasadena, the Belvedere (formerly Potter) at Santa Barbara, and the Ambassador at Atlantic City, constituting one of the largest chains of hotels in th United States. EARNINGS The net annual earnings of The Alexandria for the past four years have averaged $285,000. Based on a thorough investigation, we estimate the net yearly income of The California at $500,000. The combined earnings total $785,000 over .three and a half times the greatest annual bond interest. MONTHLY DEPOSITS The borrowing corporation covenants to make monthly de posits in a sinking fund to insure prompt application of the earnings to the payment of interest and of the bonds as they serially mature. This issue has been purchased by us after a thorough investigation. The bonds are sur rounded by the safeguards of the Straus Plan, to which are due our record of thirty aeven years without lost to any investor.
