Chicago firain and Produce.
Chicago. April 9. Although at first
corn prices went up with a ni!-h, and there
was a broad general demand, tlve ma
jority of traders veered to the opinion
later that at least for the time being the
advance had gone far enough, and that a
reaction was due. The initial display of
strength resulted chiefly from ectlon of
the Chicago Board of Trade directors or
dering withdrawal of the maximum limit
011 changes In the value of provisions. On
the bulge, however, commission houses
lurned a square about-face and t quickly
became apparent that support for corn
was wholly insufficient to absorb the sud
den surplus of offerings. Evidence of
hedging pressure Intensified the Wle weak
ness and left the market In the end near
the lowest level of the day.
With all trading restrictions abolished,
provisions scored a sharp advance, but
corn weakness forced a setback.
