Ice Crop Shortage Is
Reported From AH
Points in Nebraska
While all the cities and towns' in
Nebraska are short on the annual
ice crop, due to the mild weather
last winter, those in the western
portion of the state are better sup
plied than those farther east.
In the western part of the stats
the weather was colder than in the
Missouri valley. In addition to
this fact, the ice men gathered ice
when the gathering was good. An
ticipating that they were not going
to obtain the normal crop, they cut
and packed ice when it was six to
eight inches thick.
In addition to doing this, when
the streams broke up, at many of
the small towns along the streams,
men were stationed on the banks,
where they pulled in the floating ice.
This was cut into sizable blocks and
packed away in the ice houses.
The quality was not prime, but it
is said that the ice can be kept until
well into next summer.
