Just
Why Omaha Is Omaha
Nebraska as a banking state, ranks third per cap
ita of all the states in the union.
Omaha, as a banking city, ranks eleventh per cap
ita, while in population it takes the thirty-fourth place.
, .There are only two states ahead of us in bank
rating. They are North and South Dakota.
Nebraska, with its 1,333,000 people has 1,120
banks, or one bank for each 1,208 people.
- Taking Texas, for example; the state has 4,565,
000 inhabitants and only 1,462 banks, a proportion of
3,122 people for each bank.
The high bank standing of the state naturally
means a lot to its citizens and tells a tale of untold
wealth, prosperity and thrift.
Nearly as high as Nebraska ranks as a banking
state per capita, our home state ranks in savings.
Nebraska stands fifth among the states of the
union in membership in building and loan associations
in proportion to population.
It is only outclassed by Ohio, New Jersey, the Dis
trict of Columbia and Pennsylvania.
Our state with its 1,333,000 people has one mem
ber of a building and loan association to every 13.2
people, or in other words, 101,929 citizens of Nebraska
are members of such organizations.
Few cities, twice the size of Omaha, can boast as
many public welfare and commercial organizations.
There are 24 bodies in Omaha, covering nearly
every line of business and commercial enterprise.
First of all, there is the. Advertising Selling
League, one of the most important commercial organi
zations in Omaha. '
Next in line are the -Associated Retailers, always
in line for the welfare of the city and the principal or
ganization behind the Spring Dress-Up Week.;

Many Reasons
The Building Owners' and Managers' association
and the Business Men's association overlook no oppor
tunity to do something for Omaha.
The Omaha Automobile Trades association and
the Omaha Auto club, which recently staged the great
est automobile show this part of the country has
ever seen, are at all times co-operating with the city's
administration to further the "Safety First" movement.
Naturally the center of the co-operative business
interests of Omaha are centered in the Chamber of
Commerce, of which nearly every business man in the
city is a member. '
The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, the Omaha Hotel
Men's Association, the Omaha Woman's Club, The Ro
tary Club and the Y. M. C. A. state headquarters, ex
tend their prestige and influence throughout the state
of Nebraska and play an important part in the state's
and city's immediate history.
Naturally there are a number of trade organiza
tions, suclj as the Master Plumbers' association, the
local branch of the National Association of Building
Owners and Managers, the Omaha Electrical Employ
ers' association, Omaha Retail Grocers' association, the
United Typothetae and the Franklin club, all of which
are a power in the city.
Community associations include the Nebraska
Bankers' association, Omaha Builders Exchange, Oma
ha Grain Exchange, one of the most important in the
country; Omaha Livestock Exchange, and the Union
Stock Yards company.
In a class all by itself, is the Omaha Association of
Credit Men, which serves the community through its
many members and regulates the credit system.
All of these organizations mentioned directly fur
ther the interests of the community and by joining the
one or the other you help Omaha and yourself.
