Cattle There was a fair run of 134 cars,
or 3.600 head of cattle and trading was
steady on desirable, weighty steers and
alow on plain underweight lots. Best steers
are 15cj)25c lower for the week and plain
gradea are fully that much lower. Butcher
stock was strong and 25c higher on every
thing except fanners and cutters and plain
killers and fully steady with a week ago,
on anything desirable. Stockers and feeders
were strong and 25c 2 50c higher for the
week.

Hogs Receipts were 232 loads, esti
mated at 16,800 head. The bloom present
the fore part of the week was entirely
missing today. The market opened with
a very fow sales to shippers, steady to
10 cents lower, when It went dead .for a
period, finally resuming shortly before
10 o'clock all the way from 20 eenta to
40 centa lower than yesterday. Bulk of
today's sales was $18.60 18.90, with a
top at $19.10.
Sheep There were 2T loads of sheep
and lambs here today, estimated at 5,700
head. Demand was broad and the trade
opened at an early hour, fully 25fl50c
higher, than yesterday, fat lambs selling
mostly from $19.10 to $19.50, with a top
of $19.65. Fat ewes sold from $13.00 to
$13.50, with yearlings and wethers at
$17.00. Trade was active at the advance.

Receipts of grain were very light, rorn
constituting the bulk of the arrivals, with
27 cars. Wheat receipts were 6 cars, oats
13 cars, rye 2 cars and barley 1 car.
Corn prices ranged from uio'lianged to
8 cents higher with the market general
ly at an advance, offerings had a reatly
ale.
Oals declined 14c to 1c, will;' the bulk
a cent lower.
Rye and barley were unchanged. Scarce
ly enough wheat showed up to make a
market. The few samples brought about
unchanged figures.

Waves of selling In the corn market
clearly Indicated that the sentiment of the
trade had undergone almost a complete
reversal over night. From the outset, at
tention irom every quarter rocussed on
the prospect of rigorous federal measures
said to be In store for individuals who
took undue advantage of the recent lettina
down of bars by the food administration.
Ihe ract that railroads had again em
bargoed freight shipments to New York,
and that an acute stage had once more
been reached In the harbor strike there
counted also as a depressing Influence.
Additional purchasing of Argentine corn
to come to the United States tended like
wise to deprive the market of support, ex.
cept from profit-taking shorts.
Oats broke In sympathy with corn.
Maximum declines took place In pro
visions. Packers were said to be on the
selling aide, and there was mention of
difficulty in obtaining vessel room for ex
ports. Additional purchasing of Argentine corn
to come to the United States tended to
prevent any important rally. The close
was weak, 4c to 4e net lower, with May
$1,36 4 to 1.364, and .July $1,314 to
$1,314.
Difficulty In obtaining vessel room for

dencies were uppermost during the greater
part of today's very lively stock market,
prices breaking sharply at times In those
Ipsu'-s which recently were the objects of
bullish attention.
In place of the public Interest manifest
at Intervals earlier In the week, there were
indications of more extensive realizing
sala under cover of feverish activity in a
fow of the high priced specialties.
Aside from the publication of several
statements of earnings by Industrial com
panies which were less favorable than yes
terday's exhibits and the suspension of
the "extra" quarterly dividend on the
stojt of one of the Important copper pro
ducers, there was little In the day's hsp
penings to explain the reverBl.
Cables continued to heighten the Im
pression In financial circles of an early
determination of the fundamental features
beforo the peace conference and Washing
ton reported headway In the conferences
between the administration and railroad
executives, although rails were almost a
negligible factor.
The one outstanding feature was fur
nished by Industrial Alcohol, which next
to United States Steel, was the most ac
tive issue of the day with an extreme ad
vance of 15 points.
United Statea Stel fluctuated within a
radius of almost 3 points, but was under
constant pressure, closing at a fractional
loss, but related Industrials and equip,
tnr'nts. also leathers, tobaccos, some of
ihe ol.l oils and fertilizers were firm to
strong.
Trniling in bonds was a trifle broader
and firm in the main, although Liberty
issues wcr irregular and Anglo-French
5a yielded a trifle.

the Nebraska Master Plumbers
association, in session in Omaha.
While the end of the war hai
brought about a reduction in cer
tain necessities, it has not been fell
by the master plumbers who are
engaged strictly in doing plumbing.

years hence.
Labor too, lias become a big
problem. Pay for men in the shops
and out on the jobs, thev assert,
is 25 to 50 per cent above the prices
of five years ago. There is nothing
to indicate a reduction. Five years
ago journeymen plumbers were paid
40 to oO cents an hour and this
spring the scale starts in at $1.25,
and there is a scarcity of men too,

ers' convention opened with a ques.
tion box and the discussion of
"What is a fair profit?" Many ol
the delegates maintained that con
sidering all angles of the business,
20 per cent is not too much, while
others maintained that fairly good
money could be made on 10 per
cent.
J. W. Gamble, president of the
Chamber of Commerce, delivered a
short address, predicting great busi
ness prosperity for Nebraska and
the entire central west during the
coming year.
