Hogs Saturday's hog receipts were light,
only 39 loads, estimated at 2,000 head. The
market was uneven especially so for so
small a run. There was nothing here that
sold as high as Friday, neither were there
sales that showed the weakness of Friday's
extreme close. Comparisons were difficult
becauso of Friday's extremely variable
trade. Most of the sales were from $17.10
to $17.40 with a top of $17.50. The mar
ket opened strong but closed very weak
with several loads carried over to Mon
day. Trading for the week has been very
spotted, the early morning market as a
rule being the best time of the day with'
the close almost invariably slow and lower
with small carry-overs the next day. The
market close steady to 10c higher than
last Saturday.
Sheep There was no sheep Included In
today's arrivals at this market. Receipts
for the week total 46.300 head. Monday's
market was fully 25c lower than the close
Friday. There was a strengthening of
values, however, on Tuesday and another
advance Wednesday, the close being at the
high time of the day. The market has
shown more or less strength and with Fri
day's prices the highest of the year. The
advance made this week makes the closing
week the highest of the month. Choice

Chicago Grain.
Chicago. 111.. March 1. Moderately
bullish private estimates of farm re
serves helped to rally the corn market to
day from weakness whleh prevailed at the
opening. According to a leading expert,
the total farm reserve of corn is 835.
000.000 bushels as against 1,293,000.000
bushels a year ago. Initial declines were
ascribed to reports that eastern dealers
had become overloaded and were trying to
cancel contracts. Opening prices, which
ranpred from unchanged figures to half
cent lower, with May $1.25 to $1.25" and
July $1 21 to $1.214 were followed by an
advance to well above yesterday's finish
Later the market reacted, owing in some
degree to notice of a railroad embargo
on grain shipments to New York. The
close was unsettled, c net lower to Ac
advance, with May $1.2614 to $1.25H and
July $1.21 to $1.21.
Oats reflected the action of corn. Af
ter opening unchanged to c higher, with
May 69! to 60c, the market sagged a lit
tle and then made fresh gains.
Firmness In the hog market tended to
lift provisions. Trade, however, was light.
Setbacks which took place later proved
to be only transient.

Copper Market.
New York. March 1. A little more bus

during the earlier part of the last week,
and at one time dealers who had been
quoting $15.00, New York, showed a dis
position to raise their prices. The de

and the market was unsettled today.
Rumors of sales at $14.50. New York,
could not be definitely confirmed, but
some of the local dealers were quoting
$14 60 to $14.75, with quotations other

Mortgage Investments...
There is no investment that excels a first mortgage on East
ern Nebraska farms. The interest return, ordinarily 6, is
high considering that a farm mortgage is the best security ob
tainable. The purchaser of a mortgage becomes the owner of a
security that falls due at a definite time ordinary term five
years. However, it may be sold before maturity, without sacri
fice to the investor, as there is always a heavy demand for farm
mortgages in the open market.
Farm mortgages are free from state, county and city taxation.
We recommend for your investment our farm mortgages, ob
tainable in the denominations of $1,000 to $20,000.
