A i i u BOARD CHOOSES SITE OF SCHOOL OFIOTERCE Be Located on Thirtieth Between Cuming and Burt Streets; Plans Call for Up-to-date Building. The site, from Cuming to Burt and from Thirtieth to within a halt block of Thirty-third street, has been decided upon by the Board of Education as the location of the new High School of Commerce soon to be erected. Negotiations for its tmrchase are now pending and offi cials of the Board of Education plan to begin the preliminary work of grading the eight acres in the near future. Before construction can be gin several houses, will have to be moved. A million dollars will be expend' ed in the construction of the new institution. The bonds were voted about a vear aeo but the govern ment would not permit their sale at that time on account of the war. The bonds have been recently bought by a Boston firm with the permission ot the government. The place is easily accessible to all parts of Ornaha. It can be reached by any street railway line in the city. This is one of its prin' cipal advantages, according to' mem bers of the board. The majority of the 1,400 pupils attending the High school of Com merce reside north of Cuming street. The location will thus be convenient to the greater portion of the students, stated the secretary. Plenty of Koom. The place is large enough to ac commodate the enlarged and mod ern high school which is being planned. The site purchased at Twenty-second and Chicago street! a few years ago has proven too small for the rapidly growing insti tution. It is planned to utilize the Chicago street lot tor the erection of a junior high school to be com posed of Seventh, Eighth and Ninth grade students. This will relieve the crowded conditions In both our public and high schools. The new High School of Com merce will be one of the most mod ern and best equipped in the coun try. It is planned to make it a technical as well as a commercial high school. Shops for the teach ing of trade's and facilities for teach ing of home economics, mechanics printing, carpentry, journalism and many other trades and professions will be installed. The buildings on Leavenworth street, which compose the present High School of Commerce, will be condemned and torn down. Only the annexes, recently constructed to accommodate the overflow oi pu pits, will be transferred to the new site. Well Known Musician Pays Frances Alda Compliment One of the many remarkable trib utes tendered to Mine, I' ranees Alda, the gifted soprano who will be heard in recital at the Auditor ium Friday evening, March 7, as the third number of the "All-Star" con cert course, is from a musician whose name is well known the country over. In his comment he said: I have heard every singer worth hearing In the last 20 years but never do I re call so beautifully rounded a crea tion that Mine. Alda provided m her Roxane, which she made vocally su perb, visuably delightful, and dramat ically convincing in every way inai is expected of one so extraordinarily gifted and sincere." Mme. Alda m song recital compels the admiration of the sort gained by only one or two other singers before the public. ' Seats now on sale at the Auditor ium box office.
