Definite plans for resumption of base ball in the American Association next season will be agreed upon at the annual meeting of club owners in Minne apolis next Friday. The positive an nouncement rivas made today by K Thomas J. Hickey, president of the association, that the game would be resucied. ' "Base ball as usual" is President Hickey's optimistic view of the sit uation. ' "I am confident base ball , will come back stronger than ever," he . said. "The situation becomes bright er each week. The speedy demobil ization of American forces on land and sea meant that America, in my judgment, is due for big revival in all sports." '" v Apparently the club owners hold little fear of omens of misfortune fox the meeting is to be held on the thirteenth of the month with Friday another alleged hoodso thrown in for good measure. . Tha meeting of members of the Coffee and Sugar ex change today resulted In a tie vote on the question of reopening the marks for cof fee futures. This left the matter In the bands of the board of managers, who de cided not to take' any action at this time. Requests were received by the exchang from both the New Orleans Board of Trade and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce that the futures market be kept closed until rejtrlctlons were re moved from the business In green coffee, which probably lntuenced the result of the meeting. There seemed to be no clear Idea among local brokers this after noon as to further procedure and tba situ ation was described as almoat exactly the same, so far as futures were con cerned, as when the liquidation of the old Interest had been completed during th middle of last month. No change was re ported In the spot situation. Sales were reported In the cost and freight market of Santos 6s at 20 c, or the highest prices so far noted. No. 4 northern, spring: 1 car, $2.10; 1 car, $2.08 (smutty); 1 car, $1.05. Chicago Grain and Provisions. Chicago, Dec. 9. Assertions that delays to the crop movement had rendered Im probable the accumulation of an adequate winter stock of corn in the east proved more than an offset today tor big receipts here. The market closed strong, 14io to 2e net higher, with January 31.314 to $1,314. and May $1.30 to $1,304- Oats gained 4c to 14 0 and le. In provisions, the outcome ranged from 70c decline to 40o advance. During th first half of the session ths bearish sentiment dominated the corn market owing chiefly to the fact that ar rivals here exceeded even the most liberal estimate. Unfavorable weather conditions, however, pointed to a check In the crop movement, and it was (aid that rural of ferings had been further diminished by the setback of price Saturday and this morning. In this connection, gossip was current that the lateness of the crop movement had already reached a stage Which would compel an unusual total of all-rail shipment east, a total that never theless could not keep pace with expected demand. A a result, latest quo tations were near to th day' topmost level. . Seaboard demand gave Independent strength to oats. Beside domestic ship ping call showed revival. Provisions reflected liberal export and the temporary embargo here on the ex cessive inflow of hoga. Cash quotations: Corn No. 2 yellow, nominal; No. a yellow, $1.3801.43; No. 4 yellow, 1.3201.35. The moderate and Irregular improvement shown by today's stock market was mainly ascribed to the favorable tenor of week-end advice re specting general trade and Industrial pros pects, as reported by the federal reserve board and other authorities. Dealing were again light and contracted, concentrating In steels, shippings, motors, oils and several of the high grade rails, as well as minor transportation, notably Southern Railway and Texas Pacific. Speculative specialties as represented by the distilling group also formed a consid erable part of the trading, Industrial Alco hol gaining t points and Distillers a point. The most extensive gain of any stock was that of Cuba-American Sugar, which ad vanced 164 points on a single sale. Ma rine preferred fluctuated within a-24-polnt range, but yielded toward the close, despite assurances of progress in the pro posed sale to the United States government, and Mexican Petroleum lost halt of Its sub stantial rise. Sears-Roebuck, May Department Stores, American Car, American Can and coppers furnished the other firm to strong Issues, metals being sustained by unofficial reports that the war board Intends to hold the supplies now on hand. Unite States Steel and kindred shares were at their best with tobaccos at the fairly aotlve close, and Studebaker, which ranked among the few backward Issues, made up practically all Its loss of 1 points, utilities alone displaying heaviness. Liquidation of Liberty bonds proceeded, the fourth 414s making a new low quota tion at 85.64, while the second 4'4a dupli cated the year's minimum at 93.00. Rails and Internationals were steady. Total sales (par value) aggregated $10,225,000. Old United States bonds were unchanged on call. Sales Am. Beet Sugar 2,600 American Can.. 12,800 Am. car & t' dry 3,700 Am. Locomotive 1,100 Am. With artistic precision an army of decorators and workmen is put ting finishing touches on the inter ior of the Omaha Athletic Club building. The work of arranging the carpets and furniture practical-J iy is compieica, leaving iwo aays more . for the minor details before the opening day to the public, De cember 12. The committee on the arrangement of the building is gratified at the complete appearance the club rooms will present on that day. The entertainment committee has arranged a reception Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 for members who through some, recent grief may not wish to attend the public re ception to members Saturday night. Public to See All Rooms The plans and details have prac tically been all worked out for the inspection of the building by the entire public of Omaha Thursday December 12, from the hours of J to 10 p. m. This reception will be by the members generally, headed by the reception committee. Sev eral scores of ushers who know the many details of the house thor oughly will be in position to show the people through the rooms. So that the crawd will be handled properly, they will be taken by ele vators to the top floor, walking down to the main floor after being shown thoroughly through all the rooms and shown every detail on each floor. Home 'for Business Men One of the members of the Ji ception committee said today:" We want the entire Omaha public to become acquainted with the nany advantages of the Omaha Athjetic club. So many have the impres sion that an athletic club is largely a gymnasium and a place just for athletics, swimming, boxing, etc We want them to see that it is really a home for the tired busi ness man where he can drop in for a few hours and find either rest or recreation. In the summer many business men can find recre ation at golf, tennis and other outdoor sports but the new ath letic club will give him the privi lege of much needed physical ex ercise during the long winter months. "But I believe after the public inspection the people will find the athletic club a place of rest as well as a place where we can find wholesome physical exercise." Several orchestras will be placed through the building1 during the public reception, but other forms of entertainment will be impossible on, account of the large crowd ex pected on that day. The committee wishes to an nounce that children will not be permitted to go through the build ing during the public reception. AMUSEMENTS. AMUSEMENTS.
