Tho proportion of beef ateers was not as large as on either Monday or Thursday, and while the desirable rorn-fed and grass rattle found a ready Bale at steady to strong prices, the general run of light and me dium weight atee;;i and cows moved slowly at more or less shaded figures. It was the same way with the Blockers and feeders, anything that had weight and quality finding ready outlet at full re cent quotations, the ordinary run of light and medium weight stuff selling very slowly and on a catch-as-catch-can basis. Compared with the latter part of last mil-, the desirable cattle of all classes are going at somewhat stronger flcures. while still further weakness has devel oped on the medium and common kinds. A foretaste of the post-war war period was furnished by the break ot 5 to 14 points In the several Issues of the Max well Motor company, following announce ment that the dividend on the first pre ferred stock Is to be suspended because of readjustment conditions. Irregularity at the beginning was oc casioned by the heaviness of Marine pre ferred, which broke over 6 points as a result of the order from Washington hold ing up the plan for the sale of the com pany's British tonnage. Marine made up much of Its loss later and Mexican Petroleum, which fell about 3 points at the outset, scored an extreme advanco ot 4 points, most of which was retained. Domestic bonds were Irregular on the break of 1 to 2 per cent In rails and Ma rine 6s, Liberty Issues were steady with the international group. Total sales (par value) aggregated 8HJ.675.O0O. Old United States bonds were unchanged on call. OMAHA PRODUCE Prices and sales or bonds on the New Tork Stock exchange yesterday were as ISO 113 follows: Closing 15 21 : Sales. High. Low. Chicago Grain and Provisions, Chicago, Nov. 20. Prospects of an in crease of the movement of the new crop had a bearish effect todsy on corn. The market, although unsettled at the close, was lc to 2o net lower, with Decem ber l.2 to $1.29 and January $1.31 to $1.31 Vj. Oats finished c to 1 down and provisions up 6c to $1. Notwithstanding that the corn market fluctuated rapidly and that at one time the January delivery touched the highest point yet on the crop, the general ten dency most of the session was clearly down grade. Forecasts for better weather for husking and for transportation from rural sources did a good deal to make selling aggressive, and so too did knowl edge that a large number of car permits had been Issued of late. For at least the time being, fresh developments appeared to be necessary to focus attention sharply against to the bullish possibilities of food needs In Europe as against plentiful sup plies elsewhere and still existing shortage of vessels. 3 & Hedging sales depressed oats. Beside seaboard demand was slack, and the visi ble supply total showed a liberal increase Provisions were dull but firm. Notice of an embargo on hog shipments to Chi cago Thursday and Friday operated as a strengthening factor. The opinion was very generally expressed, however, that progress was being made and that the points under consideration had narrowed to the question of restrictions on Imports and business in ths spot market. Pending further developments the local spot mar ket remained nominal and no change was reported In the cost and freight situation. The official cables showed an advance of 75 rels in the Rio market.
