Naval Patrol Boat May Have Been Wrecked Upon Pacific Coast Victoria, B. C, Oct. J!. Half a dozes vessels were hurrying tonight to the waters in the vicinity of Cape' St James, at the southern end of i Queen Charlotte island, to search J for the Canadian naval patrol steam er Galiano, which early today sent oat distress signals, reporting that her holds were filling with water. It is feared that the steamer has foundered. There were forty per sons aboard the vessel, all members of the crew except one. a woman, Miss Emily Bninton of Triangle island, who was enroute to Pnnce Rnpert. Since the wireless signals of the Galiano were picked up at Triangle island by W. C O. Xeary, a brother ' of the wireless operator on the Ga-' liano. nothing had been heard from ! he steamer. The absence of further : messages was believed to indicate that the Galiano's aerial was carried away in. the strong southwest gale ' blowing or that the engine rooms ; had been so badly flooded that the ; dynamos were put out of commission. The Galiano left Triangle island. on her way to Ilceda, another island; point, at 5 p. m. Capt R. IL. Fope is the vessel's commander. j Japan Wants to Be Friend of America, Says Envoy San Francisco, Cat, Oct 31.
