week's run ever recorded at this point

what by congestion In the yards, but yes

to the country and disposed of took almost
all desirable feeders. Beef ateers were 60

closed the week with a weak undertone.

today, a very light supply, which was
soon disposed of at prices fully 15025c

ported In today but the supply for the
week is only 3,000 under record receipts
for one week at this market. Fat lambs
have shown a little strength this week,
gradually working up a trifle until the
week closes with prices 25 36c higher
than the close lsst week. The feeder mar
ket was a rather feverish affair, the first
two days of the week as well aa Wed
nesday morning with a lower tendency
each day, Wednesday afternoon seeing
prices dropping to new low levels for the
feeder market this year, slnoe which time
the movement has been a little freer,
especially on common lambs than hereto
fore.- The week closes with tha best
feeders fully 11.50. lower and In some
cases more of a decline has been recorded
tnan this, common, plain feeders are
quotably 12.00 3.00 lower than last weak.

Cora Prices Drop as Receipts Increase

for corn since trading in present deliv
ers began resulted today chiefly from
prospects of sustained liberal receipts here.
The market closed unsettled lO!0 net
lower, with October 11.48 to $1.48 and
November 11.45 to $1.46. Oats fin
ished c off to e up, and provisions
varying from 17c decline to 10c advance.
Likelihood that tha movement of corn
would increase from now on seemed clear,
Inasmuch aa a number of requeats from
the country for shipment permits bad
broadened out, and in a great majority
of case had specified oorn. Other evi
dence too wss at hand. Indicating that
unusual amounts of old oorn was still
held on farms, and now that th new
crop had become assured was pressing
to be disposed of. Dread of Injury by
frost emed to b at an end. barring
only the percentage of damage looked for
every season. Under eucn conauions, in
market proved weak throughout th day,
and received little support except from
profit short.
Relative strength displayed by oat
came principally from continued export
demand. Sales to exporters wer estl
mated at 750,000 bushel.

Yankee Aviators As
Good As Best, Says
British Air Official
With the American Army in
France, Sept. 21. (Reuter.) In the
course of a statement on the extent
and importance of the work of the
British air force, Major General
Trenchard, its commander, spoke to
day in the highest praise of the
American airmen. He said they
were as good as his own men and
more praise could not be given,
as he did not believe anything bet
ter could be said.
Their daring, their ability and
discipline and organization could
hardly be improved upon, said Gen
eral Trenchard. He mentioned that
he recently had bestowed the dis
tinguished flying cross on an Amer
ican airman.
Among a number of captured let
ters General Trenchard quoted one
describing the destruction wrought
by aircraft. This said that the
opera house and the greater part of
tne spienaia street, uit ier, in
Frankfort, was a heap of ruins and
that 120 persons had been killed.
General Trenchard said he did
not consider the attainment of abso
lute superiority in the air was a
profitable ideal. Those who in
dulged in such an ideal had no con
ception of the number of planes it
would require nor the stuff that
would be needed to serve them, as
every pilot must have some 50 men
behind him, and for every plane in
use nine would be needed in re
serve. To Adopt St. MihieL
Nantes, France, Sept. 21. The
city council, with enthusiastic una
nimity, has resolved that the city of
Nantes should adopt St Mihiel, re
cently liberated from the enemy. A
public subscription has been opened
here to enable the populace to take
part in the patriotic work.

over to Spain and would not inter

Count Romanones, the minister
of justice, told the correspondent
that the problem would not be set
tled until a few days before the ap
proaching meeting of the Spanish
parliament, but that it would , be
settled. , " .
River Steamer Goes Aground.
