CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Soaking Bain and Big Receipt Do Much
to Weaken Corn Market,
Chicago, July 16. Soaking rain and big
receipt did much today to weaken the
corn market. Although at on time price
touched new high levels for the season,
the cloe was heavy, at 2 4c. to 2 84c net
decline, with August Jl.i;o to 11.614 and
September $1,604 to tt.ilt'i. Oats IobI
4c to 14c In provisions the outcome
varied from 50c down to 10c advance.
Advices that the molsmro supply had been
so heavy and widespread us to he llbely to
head off any dry weather talk for a consld
oralilo while led to general selling wllh the
pressure most energetic around the opening
and during the last half of the day, The
fact that arrivals here wero decidedly In
excess of expectations and amounted to
nearly 500 carloads acted also as a notable
bearish factor. A transient let-up In sell
ing order wa taken advantage of by pit
trader, but the bullae which ensued was
soon more than wiped out by greatly In
creased selling that lasted until the close,
Oat were governed mainly by the action
of corn. Only a limited amount of hedging
wn done.
Increase In the tock of ribs whereas
a redn Hon had been looked for weakened
provisions. Advances In the hog market
were ignored.

DRIVE FOR LADS
IN U. S. SERVICE
Teams at Work Raising $25,
000, Chamber of Commerce
Goal for Soldiers and
Sailors.
Teams started work Tuesday nion.
in gr to raise the $25,000 for the sol-
diers' and sailors' war fund, which is
the goal of the Omaha Chamber of
Commerce.
Members of the teams working are:
Tudge Slabaugh, captain; Herbert
Connell, T. H. Barrett and C. R,
Keller. C. S Phillips, captain; j. M.
McCarthy and W. Lyman
The two teams have been assigned
! to the Omaha National bank build- ,
ing and the City National bank build
ing They will canvass these and ad
ditional teams will be assigned tc
various office buildings and sections,
of the business district while the drive
is on.
That the courtesies extended to de
parting members of the draft units
from Omaha and to men in the serv
ice from this city by the Chamber
of Commerce is appreciated, is testi
fied to by the fact that letters and
post cards are being received every
day from men in the cantonments
and in the field, thanking the body
for past courtesies and asking for new
favors. ,
Requests are coming in for cigarets,
safety razors, blades and strops, and
countless other small things, recognize
ing the fact that Omaha's men in .
the service appreciate the spirit of the .
Chamber of Commerce to be of serv
ice to them in a spirit of unselfish
ness. Most of the men who are ask
ing these small favors are those who
have but few home ties. They have
selected the Chamber of Commerce.,
as their "best friend."
On all packages of comforU sent'
out in future to men in the camp and
field, and to those who depart in the
draft units from the city, will b
labels containing the optimistic and.
cheery inscription. "Omaha Will Wel
come Yo Home, instead of a doleful
"farewell
