Fund for Omaha Soldiers

charge of the solicitation and the ob

The fund will be drawn on to pay
for entertainment given to departing
soldiers and to soldiers passing
through the city.
It will also be used to buy articles
to send to Omaha soldiers. When
men leave for the training camps
they arc given post cards with in
structions to write their wants on
them and mail them to the Chamber
ol Commerce
Scores of these cards have been re
ceiver! and many are b,emg received
tiaily at the Chamber of Commerce
Among the most popular requests are
for cigarcts and razor blades. Half
a dozen packages of the former are
sent promptly to the boys who re
quest tiicm. Une boy asked for a
book on gas engines and this also
was found and sent to him. Another
asked the chamber to find his suit
case which was lost when he left

City council committee of the whole
authorized the purchase of 6.0C0 feet
of new tire hose as per recommenda
tions of Chief Salter of the fire de
partment and submitted by Commir
sioner Ziniman. The hose will cost
$1.10 per foot and the business was
divided anions; three bidders. An
optional order for 3,000 feet will be
placed, to be filled if funds during the
last of the year will permit. Chief
Salter would not recommend pur
rliase of the hose offered at 85 cents,
