Corn Price Advance on Evening Up Trades, Preparatory to Holiday, Chicago, July 8. Evening up to prepare for the holiday had a good deal to do with ad vance which took place today tn th eorn market Price closed unsettled, but to lo net higher, with August, .$1.61 to $1.6$. and September $1.64 to $1.54 Oat gained lo and provision lOo to 10 O330. Bullish construction put on orop figures tended to stimulate torn buying of eorn. Acreage was estimated at $,100,000 less than last year, but this exhibit was offset by reckonings that notwithstanding th small er acreage the yield would reach 1,169,000, 000 bushels, a new high record total. On the other hand th government weekly report showed that frost damage In northern Ohio and Indiana lowlands was more seri ous than had been believed. Gossip that comparatively few car would be furnished for th purpoa of moving grains other than wheat served also to stimulate buyer, de splts transient weakness resulting from a food administration ruling emphasizing that license requirements are stringent Oat war strong with corn. Besides, sea board demand was In evidence, and It was predicted that ths 1918 yield would be 137, 000,000 bushels under lsst year. Big reduction In western stocks of meat last month was chiefly responsible for th advance In provisions. Later new ruling by th food administra tion brought about a setback In prices. Ths ruling was construed to mean that unless a holder of a future delivery contract had a llcenss to nanme casn grain no couia not accept delivery. The close was un settled.
