New York, May 81. Trading In stock!
during the greater part of today'! unsettled

In the flnsl hour the market was en

which carried moat of those shares far
above final prices of the previous session.
Marine preferred, on accumulation of the

of tlk points to 104, th! common gaining
4'H points and the 6 per cent bonds i.
Ths movement In Marines coincided with
a meeting of the directors at which pro

Other active stocks also sipsrlenced a re

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISION'S,
Cora Drops to Reason's lowest Price and
Belling Order Flood Market.
Chicago, May II. Lowest prices yet thl
ssason resulted In the corn market today
from weather condition Ideal for th trow
ing crop. The close was unsettled, 1
to lo nst lower, with June $1.11 and
July $1.11 to $1.11. Oats finished Tt -to
lo down and provisions varying' from
IT point decline to II points advance.
High temperatures following the reoent
period of wetness made the outlook de
cidedly bearish In regard to corn. The
consequenoe was a stream of selling order '
to commission houses, and there seemed
no doubt that much of the pressure
wa in ths direction of liquidating lone
contracts. Support of a substantial char
acter failed to develop until a redescent ot
more than I cents a bushel had taken place.
Even then, the principal buying cam from
shorts who desired to collect profit. Hal
lies which ensued were of relatively mod- "
erate extant, and not aggressively held,
owing somewhat to slowness of oash In
quiry and to enlargement of reoelpta.
Oats, like corn, dropped to new low level
for th season. Short did not wait for
eleventh hour settlement of contracts and
there wa no new Incentive to holder. , '
Provisions sympathised with tho weakness
of grain and wtth the decline In hog values
as compared with Wednesday,

Dunn's Trade Review.
New Tork, May II. Dunn's Review says:
The more complete concentration of the
nation's Industrial force on war activities,
necessitating msny changes, Is being ac
complished steadily, and with a minimum
ot disturbance. Extension of governmental
domination of business to meet the exl- -gencles
of the period Is reflected In th
continued readjustments In both production
and distribution and ths situation should
be further featured by Important action on, ,
railroad rates and wages and by proposal
of new taxation measures. While the rise
of prices of various commodities baa bees
halted through official regulation or front
other cause, manufacture and mercantile
profits are large In' many Instances as re
ports of earnings testify, and the May
Insolvency returns to close the smallest
number of commercial reverse for ' th
month In fully a decade.
