CHICAGO OKAIX AND PROVISIONS.
Cora Undergoes Sharp Breaks In Talus and
Oats Kase Down.
Chicago, May 14. Corn underwent sharp
breaka In valus today owing largely to of.
flclal announcement that there waa plenty
of seed on hand to supply all requirements
this season. Prices cloaed unsettled, 1 net
lower to OK advance, with May $1.17
and July $1.43 to $1.43. Oats finished
unchanged to down and provisions off 17
oents to $1.
Despite numerous rallies due to covering
by aborts, ' ths weakness of corn prices In
01 eased aa tha and of the session approached
and the close was at virtually tha loweat
level of the day. In thia connection, bear
ish sentiment appeared to ba Influenced to
a considerable extent by an understanding
that tba Department of Agriculture expected
to assist farmera In obtaining aeed oorn for
replanting If first planting failed,- and that
even then a surplus would remain. Pros
pects, too, of warmer weather that would
facilitate planting tended further to weaken
the market, and so likewise did slackness of
demand for Immediate delivery.
Oat eased down with corn. Crop condi
tions were excellent and there were no bids
from exnortera. '
Provisions droppsd from tha extreme limit
allowed for ona day aa a rssult ot govern
ment notice to paokars that prices to re
tellers must not sxceed tha prices charged
on May 1.
