10 A CtrtS OMAHA SUNDAY BEE: APRIL 21, 1918. WARD BURGESS IS MUCH WANTTD MAN INCAPITAL Vanderlip Insists Omaha Man . Needed in War Savings ' Work; Cannot Be Released for Wool Job. Washington. April 20. (Special.) Frank A. Vanderlip, chairman of the national war savings comtnittee, and Ward M. Burgess, director of war savings for Nebraska, had dinner to gether here Friday night. Mr. Vanderlip came to Washington to see Mr. Burgess about the rumor that he would take charge of the woolen branch of the dry goods and clothing division, created in the war industries board. He insisted that Mr. Burgess would be necessary to the carrying on of the war savings work in other states, and that the na tional war savings committee could not consider releasing Mr. Burgess from the duties of war savings work. ' Mr. Vanderlip proposed that Mr. Burgess devote his time for the next few weeks to visiting the other states in the union in which the war savings activity has not progressed as it has in. Nebraska. . , Rivalry Keen. . The rivalry between the war indus tries board and the national war sav ings committee for the services of Mr. Burgess is causing much interesting comment among those in Washington win know Mr. Burgess and are ac quainted with the conspicuous suc cess of the Nebraska war savings campaign. Mr. Burgess wired Ar thur C. Smith, his business associate at Omaha, that he was disposed to remain in the war savings work as long as he was needed there, but that he would render such assistance as he could to the war industries board. I although he had, not fully determined Oil WUdi WUU1VI UK. lUIOUU. Letters from othei state directors of war savings continue to come to Mr. Burgess asking for advice on how Nebraska succeeded so remark ably, and several directors have called on him personally. Mrs. Wilson Reviews Parade . Of Women in Philadelphia Philadelphia, April 20.-Mrs. Wil son, wife of the president, came here from Washington this afternoon and from a grandstand at Broad street reviewed a parade of 25,000 Philadel phia women working to win the war. The most conspicuous group in the procession was a company of 50 Ar menian women dressed in deep mourning. Ickes Joins Y. M. C. A. Staff. Chicago, April 20. Sherman aV MeConnell Drug Co. , J, What Painless Dentistry Really Means A Frank Discussion of a Much Abused Phrase Jhe so-called "Ethical" Dental Societies of the 'United States have used as an argument against Adver tising Dentists that they advertised "Painless Dentistry," and charge that ' ,'tAdvertulng'alI dental operations painless it untrue, positively silly, and un businesslike." I hardly think any sane man, certainly no sane dentist, will dispute that statement, BUT, like many other "charges" made by jthe "Ethical" Dental Society, it is misleading, insincere and beclouds the real issue, which jj - DO DENTISTS AS A WHOLE USE EVERY POSSIBLE MEANS, INCLUDING TIME AND EXPENSE, TO MINIMIZE OR ELIMINATE PAIN IN THE DENTAL CHAIR? I not only CLAIM they do not, I KNOW THEY DO NOT. Scarcely a day passes but some nervous woman or timid child, yes, even MEN, tell me how they put off their , visit until they could delay no longer, because they FEARED TO COME TO A DENTIST. They say Dr. "Blank was "so rough," Dr. So and So was "positively brutal," and some other Dentists "rushed them through," and it was this very state of affairs that spurred me on several years ago to perfect a . method of anaesthesia, in order that I might extract teeth painlessly and minimize pain as much as possible in other operations. Personally, I believe, there is danger attending the use of "laughing gas," "air," "semnof orm", nitrous oxide, etc., and that they should be given only in urgent cases, and then only by a COMPETENT PHYSICIAN. I also realize that the average person cannot afford to pay TWO professional fees for the extraction of a tooth. My ambition was to discover a LOCAL ANAES THETIC that was SAFE, POTENT, INEXPENSIVE, AND WITHOUT BAD AFTER EFFECTS. I succeeded so well that the name "PAINLESS WITHERS" was given me by my patients, and became so much a part of my practice that I incorporated the "Painless Withers Dental Company." I claim for my method just this, and nothing more : (1) I have proven in thousands of cases that I can extract teeth, and, when necessary, extract live nerves .with practically no pain. (2) I have instructed my associates to use such time, care and precautions as may be necessary to insure ' every patient the last possible distress, inconvenience or danger. ,This often necessitates doing difficult work on sen- SbVSoIBP- and in several visitsbut the , ' There is a standing invitation to every dentist in the amv iJ0th.e Public. generally, to visit my office at ' i . A.1ML' t0 aspect it, to examine my equipment, my sterilizing room, my laboratory, to watch the extraction of teeth under my painless method, to note the skill dis- , played by my staff on inlays, fillings, crown and bridge This is ONE dental office that does exactly what it advertises and advertises exactly what it does.
