of canine pets by society women
may be regarded, or the duration of
f the war, at least, as patriotic duty
instead of as a wasteful and demor
alizing luxury if the dog be of the
long-haired species.
It has been demonstrated that an
exceptionally high-class wool can
be spun from the combings of all
breeds of long-haired dogs. Samples
from chows, Pekingese, poodles,
Mergers d' Alsace and sheep dogs
have been submitted. to wool ex
perts,' who are emphatic in their
commendation.
. To popularize the discovery and
turn it to good account the British
Dogs' Wool association has been
formed with the countesf of Gos
ford as president and Lady Alger-
1 non Gordon Lennox as chairman.
. The dogs' wool, so far as the asso'
ciation can control it, will be turned
over to the British Red Cross7 so-
ciety. ' , ' .
Meanwhile short-haired dogs are
discredited and in peril of destruc
tion unless it can be proven that
they, too, may be utilized to help
win the war, otherwise than as

Christian,' widow, of Alfred I. Chris
tian Ti Omaha, a bequest of $3,000 ft
his will, Joseph C. Schramm, who
died on March 14, revoked it later by
a codicil. His will and codicil, filed
and admitted to probate here today in
the surrogates' court; divides his
estate between his widow and two
children, Margaret Scjtfamm and
Josephine Scramm Landers and
Charles Schramm. The widow and
twochildren are named as executors
without, Bonds. 'The property consists
of about $60,000 in personal and $30,
000 in realty. Mr. Schramm did at
New Orleans. ' '
Ellfs R. Wallace, who was a brother
of Charles O. Wallace of Omaha,-left
an estate when he died, intestate, at
Boston, Mass., on December 14, last,
which was revealed here today in the
surrogates court by the granting of
letters of administration upon his

unceremoniously the German idea of
freedom of the seas, CapTIin Persius,
the German naval expert, in an ana
lysis, of the, question, in the Berliner
Taxeblatt 6f March 2, a copy of which
has been received here, reaches this
conclusion:
We can., in other words, gain free
dom of the seas of advantage to us
only by means of a peace by under
standing. Every peace by force would
seal the unfreedom of the seas for
us also in times of peace." ,

rs that there are two views of how
Germany must secure freedom of the
seas "for"the,future." The "policy of
force is. that Great Britain must be
defeated as a necessary preliminary,
while the adherents of international
treaties hope to gain the same end by
applying rules of land warfare to the

chase and did not return.
