Cattle The week opens out with a liberal
run of rattle, 7,800 head, and an active and
stronger market all around. Both local
packers and shippers were wanting the de
sirable hundywclgut and heavy cattle, and
trade was anywhere from strong to IS ff 3 So
higher prices for them. Quito a few loads
brought $13.00, and one load $16.25, the
high price of the season to date. Ordinary
light and medium weight cattle were not
very active and prices much tho same as
Uiward the close of last week. Demand
for rows and heifers Is fairly broad, and
prices, unevenly stronger for anything de
sirable in this line. Common and csnner
grades were quotably unchanged. In stock
era and feeders the desirable kinds ruled
strong, while It was a slow and Irregular
deal on the common light and medium
weight s tuff.

f Bogs Today's market opened with re-
ceipts of 10,000 head or 141 cars, a gooo
run for Monday, and the market showed
much activity during the early rounds, while
packers and shippers both apparently had
ample orders t take cars of the supply.
Bids were anywhere from steady to 5c high,
er than Saturday's general market, and
packers paid as high as tit. 10 for choice
lights. Bulk of the receipts changed hands
at a spread of $16.40(8)16.65. The quality
was good and as usual the call for light
weights was good and anything In this class
sold from $1.7S to 16.t0. Heavy packing
end rough hogs ranged from 116.26 to ttM6.
snd mixed and choice butchers sold from
$16.40 to $16.76. General undertone to the
nnrket was a Uttle firmer than last week's;
close. '.'. .'. j
Sheep Bulk of the arrivals 'this morn
ing consisted of good to choice fat western
and Mexican lambs: Nothing In the aged
division was received. A few cars of shorn
lambs were on sale. Very little had been
done at the opening to determine on what
basis the trading would bo done today.
There was a tendency toward higher" prices,
but packers while evidently wanting the
Bluff had not purchased any high priced
lambs on the opening. A lot of 214 heavy
western lambs averaging around 103 pounds
sold for $19.50, which is steady with last
week's close for this quality of lambs. Re.
ports from other markets show a disposition
to maintain steady prices today,

Pit Takes Dullish Interpretation f Govern
t meat Report.
Chicago; April t. Bullish interpretations
of the government crop report, together
with notice that new styls trading would
go Into effect on Thursday led to a mater
ial upturn today In th value of corn.
Prices closed firm t net higher, 11.27 W;
May. Oats gained 1'il4e to l491tt',
and provisions a shsde to 10a. .
Corn exhibited strength right from the
outset. Osneral belief prevailed that the
Mi; delivery would reach the maximum
level of prices as soon as easiness n new
style future deliveries began, for the change
In rules makes the commercial grade of
corn the contract grades. Furthermore the
new style deliveries will be without a max.
Imum price. The fact that trading con
tinued to be restricted In volume for any
one acnunt operated as a handicap on la"
bulls, but . was more than offset later
by the 'government report showing
9.5 per cent Increase of brood sows oil
farms, and by a big fulling off In the week
ly total of the visible supply of corn.
Oats ' were firmer, largely In sympathy
with corn. The government figures on the
probable wheat yield tended also to lift th
oats market, as the estlmste wa less fav
orable than had been looked for,
Packer buying rallied provisions.

NEW YORK STOdKS .
Stocks Neglected by Traders'
Who Devote Complete Atten
tion to Liberty Loan;
Market Narrow.
New York. April 8. Stocks were more or
ls neglected today by reason of Wail
street's complete absorption In the new Lib- ,
erty loan. Dealings exceeded any of last
week's dull sessions by a slight margin, but
the market's narrow range Indicated the
perfunctory character of the trading.
Meager advlm-s from the western theatei
of the war afforded the shnrls a pretext foi
exerting oceasonai pressure, but in Impor
tant shares this caused only moderate im
pairment. The rare Intervals of activity aftur tbi,..
Irregular forenoon were accompanied by nf
ferlngs of motors, shippings and obscure'
upeilaltles at re-ersals of 1 to points, T
whereas a few stocks recently favored by
pools averaged 1 point advance. America r.
Ice common and preferred were conspicuous
for their extreme of 4 and 4H points, re
rpeetlvely.
Minimum quotations were registofed In
the final hour, the , further reaction ac
companying an advance In call loans from
4 to 6 per cent, presumably in comsMiuence
of last Saturday's adverse bank statement.
Sales amounted to 346,000 shares.
Virtually no funds were obtainable at th
longer time periods, but quotations wer
slightly higher, 6 per cent being offered foi
accommodations extending from ( to
months.
The bond market was featureless, aside
from further selling of Liberty issues, espe
cially the second 4s, at gradual derllnes. To
tal sales par value aggregated $4, 176,004.
I'nlted States bonds, old Isauei were un
changed pn call. ' v
