Bohemians of Omaha and Nebraska are proving themselves 100 per cent loyal. The moment France granted their request to raise a Bohemian army in the United States, they began 'recruiting activities. A well ; or ganized effqrt is now under way to make the enlistments from this city hd state lead the list. Emil Tuma, who has been ap- EMIL TUMA. pointed as head of the recruiting bu reau for Nebraska,- Kansas, North and South Dakota, has opened head quarters at 1423 South Thirteenth street Omaha Sends 153 - Since permission to organize an arm of Bohemians was granted by the French government, recruiting offices have been opened in every large city in the United States. Omaha has sent 153 recruits to New York, where they will join recruits from all parts of the United States for em barkation to France. When they reach the front they will be attached to the Bohemian army already in the field. ' , This army is -composed of 30,000 Bohemians captured from the Aus .trians by the Italian forces, 60,000 Bohemian prisoners captured by the Russians early in tf?e war, the Bohe mians formerly in the Foreign Legion serving in France; who have been transferred to the Bohemian army, and several thousand volunteers. , ''f. Barred from Serviced -t ' , Recruits sent from the United States -consist mostly of men barred from service in the United States army, either through lack of citizen ship or from being over age. Charles Okrina,. discharged from United .States army as an enemy alien, has joined the Bohemian army ill Guiana, a'tu iiaa iiiioiu svu ui the 10 discharged with hm from Camp Cody. He will be retained as a recruiting officer in this district. "Many Bohemians in America are ready and willing to fight with the allies," said Mr. Tuma, "but are not eligible for service in the national army. It is such as these will chief ly comprise the American enlistment in the Bohemian army in France." Colonel Nance Praises New Arrivals at Balloon School Colonel Nance, Commanding officer at Fort Omaha, praises the men who have recently arrived at the fort for instruction at the balloon school. "They are strong, up-standing young men," said Colonel Nance, "and are ready and quick to learn, and I am sure they will make good in a surprisingly short time," The men are receiving instruction in various branches of the service connected with balloon work.
