First Installment of Question
naires Must Be Returned by
Tonight; Officials Buried
With Work. . '
Saturday was the last day regis
trants can return the first installment
of questionnaires that were mailed
out last Saturday. There is a strict
penalty for those uho fail or neglect
to do so. Draft officials and clerks
are almost buried under an avalanche
of work, which is being supplemented
daily by the return of questionnaires
filled out by registrants who do not
understand, apparently, just how to
frame the correct answers to the in
numerable questions.
Up till Friday 4.2(X) questionnaires
had been mailed to reKistrauf.s. Of

have been properly tilled out and re- j
turned, but a greater number have
been sent back to the boards by the j

The registrants, when making a j
change of location, neglect to notify j
the proper board. Many question-)
uaires are being returned bearing the
natation, "in the service," but just
where they are located or when they
enlisted is a matter of conjecture.
Lawyers Work in Relays.
More, than 200 lawyers working in

the same capacity to employes of the
corporations.
Registrants who received their
questionnaires Monday are making
haste to slip in under the wire by to
night, as is indicated by the extremely
large number winch flocked to the
court house early-this morning and
were in waiting for the legal advis
ory board to get into session.
Report Wool Buyers Are
Bidding 70 Cents a Pound :

braska, Colorado and Wyoming, of
fering to contract the wool clip of
next spring at 70 cents a pound. How- J
ever, it is said that they are not meet
ing with much success on account of
the sheep men being inclined to hold
for still higher prices.
Prices offered for the 1918 wool
clip are about double those of la :t
year and are many times more than
those of the years prior to the war.
During those years the western wool
sold at 19 to 28 cents a pound, with
the last named price the top for wool
of the best grade.
It is said that when sheepmen sold
their wool clip at 26 to 28 cents a
pound, they figured that they were
making an enormus profit.
The prices, on sheep, especially the
ewes for breeding purposes, has ad
vanced fully as much as the wool.
Ewes during the years, prior to the
war sold on the range at $5 for fairly
ifOoQ animals and $7 for those that
Avere prime stock. At this time $18
lo $20 each is being offered for breed
ing ewes,

iiarry E. Patterson Dies
; At Home of Brother in East
Harry E. Patterson, 4820 Douglas
street, died Friday at the home of a
brother in Chicago, A year ago he
suffered a nervous breakdown, and
was unable to regain his lost health.
Accompanied by his family he went
to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving
with his brother, L. B. Patterson. He
via unable to make the return trip
home. ' , . , ,
Mr. Patterson was vice president of
the People's Ice and . Cold Storage
company. - He came here from Chi
cago in the employment of Swift &
Company. He is survived by his
widow, two children, and a brother
in. Chicago. Burial will be made at
Koodhouse, III., Sunday afternoon at
2 o'clock. , ,

Margaret and Her
Good Fairy
One mid-summer night the little fairies were dancing
on the mossy green banks of the River Shannon they were
all dressed in green and carried dear little boquets of sham
rocks. When the sun began to peep over the hilltop one
little fairy said, "Goodbye, sisters, you will never see me
again so many of my little girls have left Ireland and I
am going to try to find thejn." Se she flew right over to the
United States, and one day she heard little Margaret Emery
wishing, oh, so hard, for a green coat and bonnet, and the
little fairy said to herself, "She loves green so dearly she
must be one of my little girls, so I am going to be her fairy
god-mother." From that day Margaret's every wish was
granted. Last week she wished for a Bee dollie and sure
enough she was one of the lucky winners, and when she
came down to The Bee office for her dollie she found a
sweet little Irish dollie waiting for her. Now Margaret is
the happiest little girl in Omaha.
