To Practice iii Federal Court Amos
Potter Scruggs, a colored attorney,
was admitted to practice in the federal
court He was formerly a Pullman
car porter. He studied law at night
and was duly admitted to the bar.
Three Brothers Enlist Three
brothers, Merlin G., 21; Glenn M., 19,
and Adrian E. Harmsen, 24, of Hay
warden, la., enlisted at the same time
in the aviation service of the United
States. The brothers were an farmers.
Hop at Fort Crook The enlisted
men of the Forty-first infantry at Fort
Crook will give a Thanksgiving hop
Thursday evening at the fort There
will be half-hour -car service from
South Omaha all evening and the girls
are cordially invited to attend.
Railroad Offices Close Thursday
That employes may have an oppor
tunity of properly, observing the
Thanksgiving holiday, all railroad
headquarters in Omaha will be closed
all day Thursday. n Local ticket and
freight offices will close at noon and
remain closed during the balance of
the day.
Had Too Much Money Due Him
Too many bad accounts on his books
resulted in the failure of Will K. Hen
derson, a grocer at Fortieth and Ham
ilton streets. He filed a voluntary pe
tition in bankruptcy in federal court
His liabilities are $11,889 and his as
sets are $$,845. Among his assets
are $4,120 of debts due him.
Changes Mind, Joins Army W. In
gram, colored, who was brought here
from Schuyler on a charge of failure
to register, at first refused to Join the
army and told federal officials between
his sobs that he had to support his
mother. He changed his mind Wednes
day and told them he was ready to
join the army. He was taken to army
headquarters.
Shipbuilders Wanted A telegram
from Assistant Secretary Post of the
Department of Labor, Washington, to
the Co-operatite Employment office,
declares that the Moore & Scott iron
works, San Francisco, are badly in
need of riveters, boltersup, slingers,
chippers, caulkers, ship fitters and la
borers. Union hours and wages will
be paid by the ship builders, declares
the assistant secretary.

Milk Prices in Omaha
Not to Go Higher Corliss
"In my opinion Omaha milk prices
will not go any higher," said Leroy
Corliss, president of the Alamito
Dairy company and the Waterloo
Creamery company, this morning.
"While it is true the extremely high
Cost of feed and help has greatly in
creased the "cost of production, the
joint, operation of the Waterloo
Creamery company and. the Alamito
Dairy company will effect a great sav
ing in' operating expense and invest
ment, which will make it possible, to
reduce the cost of the distribution of
milk in Omaha." - -r
Mr. Corliss briefly outlined Im
provement in service, to be made im
mediately. , '
As a result of negotiations com
menced last July Mr. Corliss and his
associates, together with the Water
loo Creamery company, have recently
purchased a controling interest in the
Alamito Dairy company. Leroy Cor
liss, president; Burt B. Corliss, vice
president; H. P. Ryner, secretary and
treasurer; Frank L. Kernan, manager,
make up the new official roster of the
Alamito Dairy company.
Women Outline Plans for
Drive in Interests of K. of C.
A meeting was held in the Knights
of Columbus club rooms Tuesday
afternoon of the women interested in
the Knights or Columbus campaign.
Mrs. T. J. Fitzmorris presided. Un
der her direction committees were
organized to canvass the main office
buildings in Omaha next Saturday.
Committees were also appointed to
canvass the foot ball games on the
Creighton field Thanksgiving day and
on Saturday, afternoon. In addition
a committee was named in each par
ish to canvass the grocery stores and
other retail stores within the outly
ing sections of the city.
The Albion committee reports that
the pledges there up to date exceed
?2,000. Lawrence has raised its quota
of $1,000. Crete has pledged $900 of
its quota of $1,500. Plattsmouth has
passed its quota of $750. Hayelock
has raised over $500; its quota was
$400. The cathedral parish at Lin
coln has passed the $8,000 mark, the
original quota for this parish being
$5,000. The grand total now is
$63,698.51
Aged Father of Madam
Borglum.Dies in France
Jean Vignal, father of Madame
August Mothe Borglutn. died Sunday
in Paris, according to word received
from General Paul Vignal in Wash
ington, D. C. Dr. Vignal was 87
- years old and was the founder of the
First Baptist church in Paris, which
he served for more than 60 years. He
preached in this church up to three or
tour years ago.
Dr. Vignal served in the ambulance
corps in the Franco-Prussian war in
1870 and received honors for dis
tinguished service.
There is another daughter surviv
ing, Mrs. Solon Borglum of New
York, wife of the noted sculptor and
artist ""
Flagmen Walk Ahead of
Trains Coming to Omaha
On account of the dense fog, every
train coming into the Union station
was late this morning. In the pas
senger yards the fog was so dense
that the block and other signals could
not be seen. Trains were flagged
into the station by trackmen walking
ahead of them. The same rule ap
plied to trains going out
Col. A. D. Fetterman Stops
Off Here for a Few Days
Colonel A. D. Fetterman, Hyannis,
:ounty attorney of Grant county, is
n town, enroute home from Union
:ounty, South Dakota, where he went
.o bury his mother, one of the Da
kota pioneers. Mrs. Fetterman was
85 rears of age and died in Kansas,
where she had gone to visit a son.
