THE BEE: OMAHA. FRIDAY, . NOVEMBER 16, 1917. S TURKEY SUPPLY 4 NOW PLENTIFUL Millions of Pounds Will Be " Thrown on Market Soon to Supply Thanksgiving Day Demand. Turkfys placed in cold storage in v 916, as much as 1,500,000 pounds of rniem, vill soon be thrown on the market throughout the United States for the Thanksgiving demand. , The United States food administra tion has had a survey made of tie cold storage houses and has learned that there are plenty of turkeys in storage for the Thanksgiving season, administration ' officials estimating that these soon will be on the market Under the provisions of the food control act, the administration will force that portion of the turkey sup ply stored in 1916 upon the market now. It is desired that this be brought out for consumption instead of being held any longer. Chickens Also Released. ii c administration estimates that ox. t lie 6,000,000 pounds of turkeys slbred in cold storage during the lat ter part of 1916, 25 to 30 per cent is still in storage. This would be at least 1,500,000 pounds. A heavy stock of chickens was also found to be in storage, at least 25, 000,000 pounds, which are also to be released for the market now. . r Omaha Interstate Fair Proposition ' Has Been Given Up The proposed Omaha interstate fair has been abandoned owing t6 inabil ity to get the support of Ak-Sar-Ben. The latter organization is not willing to undertake the promotion of a fair itself and he sentiment of the Omaha business men seems to be that a fair should not be started without the co operation of Ak-Sar-Ben. The sponsors wish to thank the Ne braska State 'Board of Agriculture, the Douglas County Agricultural so ciety, the Associated Retailers of Omaha, the Omaha Hotel Men's asso ciation, the Real Estate board of Omaha, the Omaha Driving club and the publicity bureau of the Commer- cial club for resolutions and acts of encouragement. The Omaha newspapers and numer ous trartft iniirnsls. hv the free use of ftheir columns, enabled the sponsors to get by first base with their project, pwt they say the proposal died on Pthird. Wheat Receints Heavv: - 1 r AH Taken by Food Agent Wheat receipts were the heaviest in w eeks, 106 carloads having come on to 'the market today, all of which was taken over by Food Administration Agent Neal. There has been a steadv increase in receipts during the last three weeks until millers of Omaha trade territory are pretty well stocked up. The corn market was considerably demoralized on account of the condi tion of the new corn arriving. The bulk of it was so filled with moisture that it was almost unsalable. The one car of old sold at $2.05, but the best offers on the new crop were around $1.20 and $1.25. Receipts weft 34 carloads. Prices were such that there was no way of making com parisons. Oats were a cent up, selling at 6414 and thVi cents a bushel. Receipts were 75 carloads. Farmers Spend Last Day In Omaha Seeing Sights The 500 delegates to the convention of the Farmers' Co-Operative Grain and Live Stock State association spent most of the day on the South Side visiting the stock yards, the packing p'ants, and gossiping with the com mission men and traders. At noon they were guests of the Stock Yards company at a-luncheon 'in the Exchange building. Secretary J. W. Shorthill spoke after the lunch eon. The delegates spent the day sight seeing. Their convention closes this afternoon. TEETH I DR.
