Omaha, November 14, 1917.
Continued light arrivals of grsln were no

the greater part of these, while only 18 cars
of corn and 49 cara of oats were reported.
The cash market today was very quiet
and consequently the mnount of buslnesa
transacted was very light. The demand for
good sound corn continues to be rather
urgent and sellers are holding these sam
ples for a good premium. Practically all
the sales of corn were of the new crop, and
three were disposed of at figures several
rents lower, sellers being willing to make a
little sacrifice, as there Is a material de
crease In weight If held any short time, the
amount of moisture content In the samples
ranging from 21 40 to 25.60 per cent. New
corn samplea sold at various figures, a
car of sample mixed selling at 75c and the
highest price being paid for a car of No. 4
white, whli-h brought $1 75, a range of
a dollar. One car of old No. 3 mixed sold
at $2.12, this figure being about un
changed. lats were a rather slow sale, government
and etport buyers showing scarcely any
Interest in this article. A few sales, how
ever, were made at a Mc to lc advance, the
No. 3 white selling at 644c and the stand
ard grade at 64c, while No. 3 white oats
brought 68 o.
Rye and barley were about unchanged, re
celnts being seven and two cars, respct

has been evident the last few days. No. 3
rye sold at $1.73 and the No. 3 grade of
malting barley at $130.

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Government's Promise to Furnish Can
Brings Lower Price en Cora.
Chicago, Nov. 14. Announcement that
th government would furnish an Increaaed
supply of cars to move new grain had much
to do today with bringing about lowtr
prleea In tho corn market. Ther wa an
unsettled close, lo to lo down .with
December $1.19 and May $1.1614. Oat
declined o to 0 net. The outcome in
provisions ranged from a setback of 16
cent to a like advance.
Throughout th day, free selling kept the
corn market depressed. At th outset, the
chief bearish Influence 'came from down
turns In Wall street quotations. A notice
Issued by Board of Trade directors warn
ing commission houses not to over trade In
future deliveries acted further as a handi
cap on bulls. Later, however, the main
Impetus for selling proceeded from an
authoritative source that all urgent demands
for wheat having been attended to more at
tention would now be given to providing
adequate railroad facilities for the prompt
moving of corn. Bearish Influences were
also drawn from remarks of the food ad
ministrator suggenting a lower range of
prices for feeding stuffs In order t 00b.
tain plenty of meat.
Government orders that more than 1,000
box cars can be rendered available to pro
tect federal requirements for feed had a
bearish effect on oats.

Coffee Market.
New York, Nov. 14. There -was a further
decline In the market for coffee futures to
day under a renewal of liquidation and ex
pectations of Improved facilities. The an
nouncement that the United State shipping
board had completed arrangements for the
use of Japanese and neutral tonnage In the
coastwise and South American trade were
accompanied by reports that the board bad
also approved a rate of $1.26 per bag on
coffee and full cargoes, but had not taken
any steps to fix berth rates. The rate re
cently quoted in Brazil haa been $1.75 per
bag, and there waa probably selling on ex
pectations of lower Importing costs. The
market opened at a decline of 2 to 3 point
and sold off tn 6.98c for December and
7.40c for May with the cloae showing a net
loss of 6 to 8 points. December, 6.99c; Jan

New York, Nov. 14. The fell of the
French mlnlntry, new uncertainties In the
Russian and Italian erlsca and the proh

new mlnlmums were recorded among Fhares

Canadian Pacific registered a new low for
many years at 13014.
The feeling of uneasiness was accentuated
by heavy liquidation of Liberty bonds, both
Issues yielding to lowest quotations, tho :!,

Offerings of securities were persistent,
though relatively moderate, that very con

VILLA AGAIN IN
ARMS: BULLETS
FALL ON U.S. SIDE
Bandit Attacks Mexican Troops
Near Ojinaga at Daylight;
American Troops Guard
Rio Grande.
Fresidio. Tex., Nov. 14. Fighting
between Villa forces and Mexican
government troops began at Ojinaga
I at 5:20 a. m. (central time.) The at-
! .,..!. ..-.... .1 .1.. I
late, ami uuiii me auuuiwiai auu
grew gradually with the approach of
daylight into a constant fire of rifle
shots. ,
No artillery, machine guns or hand
bombs we re used in the first attack.
American patrols are guarding the
ford opposite Ojinaga. It is reported
bullets are falling on the American
side of the Rio Grande.
Firing on the Mexican side contin
ued until daylight, about 6 o'clock.
Then a machine gun from the Ojinaga
garrison fired three volleys. Bullets
continued to fall on the American side
of the ford nearest to Ojinaga.
Refugees from Ojinaga started com
ing across to the United States and
reported the fighting was outside of
town. The attack apparently was
against the main camp of General
Espinosa y Cordovas, one and one
half miles southwest of Ojinaga.
