For Omaha has al ready started to do its Christmas shopping early so the packages may reacn tne boys betore the holidays. Omaha stores report brjski Christ mas shopping for the last 10 days, with each day adding to the extent of the shopping. It is expected Christ mas shopping during November will be unprecedented this year because packages for overseas shipment must be mailed by December 1. "Do your Christmas shopping early" has be come a reality this year. Mailing Instructions. Misunderstanding reirardinsr Christ mas packages for our military and naval forces abroad has been cleared up by advices received here by the railway mail service. These packages will be accepted up to 20 pounds in weight. They must be packed in wooden boxes of not more than two cubic feet in f.ize, with hinged or screw top to facilitate open ing for inspection. Np perishable food products other than ' those en closed in cans or glass jars should be included in such shipments. They should be marked "Christmas Box" and should be addressed with the nameof the soldier, unit to which he belongs and sent "in care of commanding general, port of embark ation, Pier 1, Hoboken, N. J." Twelve Cents per Pound. From there they will be transported by the War department The French railways will not transport packages of more than seven pounds weight. It is presumed that the War depart ment will transport them by motor truck from the dock in France to the soldiers. The parcel post rate on these pack ages is 12 cents a pound. The Commercial club is watching this development closely and is keep ing in touch with General Crowder's movement for the examination of the remainder of the drafted men. Members of committees of the Commercial club have already laid their plans for action when the time comes to present Umaha s claims. 10,000 Soldiers a Month Is Canada's New Quota for War Hamilton, OnC Nov. 3. Under the compulsory military service law now in operation Canada is preparing to send its soldiers overseas at the rate of 10,000 every month, according to Major General Newburn, minister of militia, who addressed a gathering of conscription liberals here today. He declared the conscription law had made it possible to raise at least 25,000 men in a few weeks. Fire in Northwestern Depot Threatens the Records Fire in the Northwestern freight de pot imperiled valuable records for a time this morning. . A chance visit of a clerk to the file room resulted in discovery of the blaze in time to summon the fire department before the records were destroy. . .... .
