CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS Weakness of New York Stock Leade to De cline In Corn. Chicago, Oct. 31. Material declines took place today In the value of corn, largely as a result of weakness In the New York stock market and owing to weather con ditions adapted to husking and to the rural movement of new grain. The close was steady but H to 1 cent net lower with December $1.17 and May $1.13 to 31.13H. Oats lost a shade to H4. The finish In provisions ranged from 35 cents off to a rise of 26 cents. Throughout the day, selling pressure and lack of support tended to bring down the corn market. Liquidation of stocks appeared to be more generally taken than heretofore as a signal for unloading by many holders of corn who would otherwise have withstood the bearish Influence of clear skies and freezing temperatures. Reports that an unusually large amount of new corn was turning out to be of unsatisfactory grade was variously construed, bears asserting em phatically that much more soft corn would be available for December delivery at five cent discount that longs would be willing to pay. Oats were easy with corn, although coun try offerings proved light. Advanced prices on hogs made provisions average higher. The jump in the hog mar ket appeared to be related to federal as surances of "proper remuneration to the producer." Corn No. t yellow, $2.162.17; No. 3 yellow, $2.16; No. 4 yellow, $2.12.
