Cattle Receipts both for today and for
tho woek so far are the smallest since six
weeks ago, and as the demand Is fairly
broad for desirable cattle of all kinds, the
market Is the most active it has been in
some time at steadily Improving prices.
Grass beeves along with anything desirable
In the feeder line sold strong to as much as
10 cents higher today, and the bet', r classes
at least of cowa and heifers andt mixed
stock were active and stronger. There has
also been more activity the last couple of
days In the plainer grades of storkers snd
feeders, and as a result the cleanup Is tho
best that It has been In some time. A few
good corn feds were here today, but they
were a little slow in moving, as no one knew
Just what they were worth.

CIUCAGO fiBAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Nerronsness In Short Offsets Han Placed
on Future Deliveries.
Chicago. Oot. 24. Nervousness on the part
of shorts more than offset for at least today
any bearish results from a ban, which, to
co-operate with the government, the Board
of Trade directors last night placed on all
new buying of November and December de
liveries of corn. The market closed unset
tled, 101O net higher, with December,
il.KU 01.16 and May $1.11 01.11.
Oats advanced 0Hc to He and provi
sions wound up unchanged to 66o higher.
Notwithstanding that tho announeed pur
pose of the Board of Trade director was to
prevent existing scarcity of oorn In els
vator here from bringing on a Jump In
values, the first effect waa to Increase
anxiety on the part of shorts, who feared
that they would be unable to obtain oorn
to fill contracts. Rains and snow were re
ported as delaying tha crop from drying out
and there were also advices at hand that
husking had bean Impeded to a material
extent by a scarcity of labor on -farms.
Under suoh circumstances the market closed
at the topmost point reached.
Oats sympathized with the advance of
corn. Rural offers continued light, despite
immense reserves in farmer hands.
Strength of hogs and corn lifted provi
sions. Lard especially tended to soar.
