Hogs The market waa extremely dreggy.
Receipts were a little larger than they have
been, but the main cause of the sluggish
ness was the extremely bearish tendency at
all markets. Packers had not done a great
deal at noon, and halt the offerings were
still unsold, a shippers continue to be very
light buyers. What sales had been made
looked from 16e to In most cases a full 36r
lower than yesterday, quite a bit of stuff
moving around $17.00(717.20,1 with nothing
over $17.40, and that paid only for a piece
of a load.
Sheep There was a rather druggy under
tone to all kinds of sheep and lambs this
morning, and, as a general thing, buyers
were out to make purchases at esalcr prices.
Sellers were holding their lambs at good
firm prices, however, and all the sales that
have been made up 10 11 o'clock were no
less than steady wtth yesterday. Some of
the better fat lambs sold around $17,850
17.76. with decant to good kinds of feeders
as high as (18.00, and a few head up to
$18.30. Fat aheep looked easier, choice
ewes being bought at $10.86. Feeding and
breeding ewes were about steady.

Chicago, Oct lT. Unwelcome rains and
prediction of mar moisture coming tended
today to mak the eorn market ascend. Th

and May at 11.10 0110. Oats gained

ranged from 16o decline to a rla of 6c,
At first .the stormy weather exerted
only a sllh bullish Influence and there
was not much buying even on th part
of shorts, most of whom appeared to have
supplied their need th previous day. After
a moderate decline, however, demand In
creased, especially after due notice was
taken of forecast that dampness would
continue and that th speedy drying out
ot the crop would be hindered. In' addi
tion, reports Were circulated that owing
to the scarcity o help the general progress
of husking was slower than had been ex
pected. Accordingly, price had a good bulge
late in the session with the finish at the
topmost point reached.
Renewal of buying for the seaboard gav
Independent strength to sat.
Enlarged supplies of hogs did a good deal
to weaken previsions. Subsequently, though,
house with stock yard eonnection took the
buying aid and brought about something ot
a rally.
