Cattle Receipts were fair for a Monday,
about 15,600 head, but this was nearly
10,000 short of last Monday's record breaker,
and the -market showed considerable Im
provement all around. Both beef steers snd
cow stuff ruled snywhere from strong to
10c at IGo higher than last week, and al
though the quality of the offerings was
rather common the movement was free and
prospects favored an early clearance.
There was also a good degree of activ
ity In stackers and feeders, Offerings of
desirable kinds were light and prices strong
to 10c at 16o higher than last Friday. Th
medium and common Kinds a usussl sold
very unevenly and not so very much better

Sheep Th sheep and lamb run sxceeded
early estimates, around 149 cara, or 40,000
head, being In sight at mldforenoon. As
was the case the early part of last week,
It was well along In ths forenoon before
the bulk of the stuff reached th barn.
Demand for feeding lamb wss a good dsal
better than It waa the early part of last
week and what good lambs wers ready to
show by 10 o'clock sold fairly readily at
figures that looked fully lOfflHo higher
than last week's close, several strings of
desirable stuff selling around $11.10011 46.
With adpplles running so far above expecta
tions there was a good possibility that the
plainer kinds would not be such ready sell
ers. Packers had don nothing up to 11
o'clock, but prospects were for at least a
steady tfade on good killing lambs. The
old sheep, supply wss of good volume, but
demand for:, feeding and breeding stock
was broad, and .early sales were firm to. If
anything, higher. Feeder yearling wethers
reached 113.78,' With fair to pretty good
breeding twen around 112. 0014. 00. Pack

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Reaction Comes From Advance Which Frost
Indications Gave U Corn Price.
Chicago, III., Oct. 1. -Indication that
damage by frost last night had been done
to th quality of corn rattier than quantity,
led ta a reaction today from an advance
which at first took place In prices, Th
market closed unsettled at $1.18 Decem
ber and $1.15 to $116 May, half cent
off to a shade up, as compared with Sat
urday's finish. Th outcoms In oats was
unchanged to o lower, and provisions 47
cents down to a rise of 5 cents.
Frosts in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and In
diana had a moderate bullish Influence on
corn at the outset, but after th first hour
th effect wss more than saunter-balanced
by comprehensive advice that although the
quality of the corn might prove ta bs
slightly under th average th aggregate
yield would b large. In view of the gen
erous else of the expected supply, na un
easiness developed over ths fact that ths
present available stock was shown to be
th smallest at this sesson In mora than
thirty years. Assertions currsnt 1st In
the day that a petition wa being circu
lated here to have the maximum price on
corn removed were without substantial basis.
Business In oats was narrow and simply
reflected the change In th corn market
Provisions, Ilk oats, swayed with corn.
A small dsmand from commission houses
waa quickly submerged by of firings from
stock yard houses.
