Receipts over the holiday were quite
heavy, about 166 cars arriving in the mar
ket. The run of wheat was quite liberal,
forty-four cars of this cereal being reported
In, the greater part of these being of the
Nos. I snd 1 grades, for which the mills
put In a good Inquiry.
Cash corn wss a little weaker, quota
tions on this cereal ranging from un
changed to 4o lower than Saturday's prices,
the No. 1 white selling at the unchanged
price, 1" 01, while the mixed variety suf
fered the 4c decline. Trade was somewhat
slow, however, although there was a good
demand for all the better grades, this be
ing especially true of the Nn. 1 white and
yellow, for which some of the commission
men showed much eagerness to get hold
of for Industrial purposes. The No 1 yellow
sold at 11.90 and the No. 1 mixed at 11.11
and 11.89, while th No. I brought prac
tically the same prices. Receipts of corn to
taled sixty-two cards.
On Is sold off fractionally, the general run
of this cereal declining Vtc to c. and with
a good demand, mad up quit an active
market. Receipts were quite heavy, with
110 cars, and only a few samples of the
mixed and off grades were left on the
table. Nn. 2 while soltda at 68o snd 61 Vic,
and the Nn. 1 whits at 67 He and 6744c, the
bulk of these sales bringing 67 o. No 4
whit sold at 57 Vic, while the standard
grade brought 67c and 66c, and a few cars
of the sample grade, went at 67o and 67 He.
-Receipts of rye and barley were eighteen
and twenty-two cars, respectively, these ar
rivals being much heavier than they have
been for some little time The spot quo
tations on ryo were H: lower, while bur.
ley was unchanged to 2u lower, with a good
domsnd for both these cereals. No. 1 rye
sold at $1.81 and $1.64 and the No. $ at
$1,83, while No. 2 limiting hnrley brought
$1.31 and the No. 3 $1 28 and $1.31. No. 4
barley sold at $1.21 and $1.10, and one car
nf Nn 1 feed went for $1.22.

Cattle Receipts were fair for a Monday,
about 15,600 head, but this was nearly
10,000 short of last Monday's record breaker,
and the -market showed considerable Im
provement all around. Both beef steers snd
cow stuff ruled snywhere from strong to
10c at IGo higher than last week, and al
though the quality of the offerings was
rather common the movement was free and
prospects favored an early clearance.
There was also a good degree of activ
ity In stackers and feeders, Offerings of
desirable kinds were light and prices strong
to 10c at 16o higher than last Friday. Th
medium and common Kinds a usussl sold
very unevenly and not so very much better
than last week.

Indications Gave U Corn Price.
Chicago, III., Oct. 1. -Indication that
damage by frost last night had been done
to th quality of corn rattier than quantity,
led ta a reaction today from an advance
which at first took place In prices, Th
market closed unsettled at $1.18 Decem
ber and $1.15 to $116 May, half cent
off to a shade up, as compared with Sat
urday's finish. Th outcoms In oats was
unchanged to o lower, and provisions 47
cents down to a rise of 5 cents.
Frosts in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and In
diana had a moderate bullish Influence on
corn at the outset, but after th first hour
th effect wss more than saunter-balanced
by comprehensive advice that although the
quality of the corn might prove ta bs
slightly under th average th aggregate
yield would b large. In view of the gen
erous else of the expected supply, na un
easiness developed over ths fact that ths
present available stock was shown to be
th smallest at this sesson In mora than
thirty years. Assertions currsnt 1st In
the day that a petition wa being circu
lated here to have the maximum price on
corn removed were without substantial basis.
