OF GREATER OMAHA
Woodmen of the World to Pre-
sent Medals to All Members
of the Order Called to
i - the Colors,
The patriotic central committee,
Woodmea of the World, met Wednes
day, when a lot of good work was
done and reported. Announcement
was made of the identification medal
to be presented to all members an
swering the call to the colors. The
committee of fifty was with Alpha
camp No. 1 Friday night and met
with a warm reception.
Today the committee will meet with
Ziikuv Dub camp No, 115; Columbus
camp, No. 69; Kosciuszko camp, No.
352, and Poniatowiski camp, No. 482.
Monday night the members will go
to Florence and meet with Robin
Hood camp No. 30.
Monday, October 8, members will
mrrt with Druid ramn No. 24. and
Tuesday with Omaha-Seymour camp
.wo. 10.
The committee reported a splendid
reception by Schiller camp No. 304.
Lunch was served.
Sovereign Manager Ruess, Cleve
land. 0., will meet with the commit
tee Tuesday, October 9, at 8 p. m. to
tell of the work of a similar commit
tee in Cleveland.
The campaign for new members is
on. Each member of each camp is
exneeted to set at least one new BO
plication. Candidates may attend the
big banquet, where nearly 1,000 mem
bers will be seated. Some speaker of
national reputation will be present.
Woodmen Circle
The "get-together" party given by
the groves of the city Friday evening
in honor of the supreme officers of the
Woodmen Circle was well attended
and enjoyed. It was a card party and
dance, and a short program of special
ties was enioved.
Alpha grove No. 2 gave a. card
party September 25. Among the
prominent guests present were Mrs.
Mary fc, LaKocca, supreme adviser;
Miss Dora Alexander, supreme clerk;
Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Long, supreme
managers; Mrs. Kate Kemington,
guardian, and Mrs. Riepen and Dr.
Wintersten of Welcome grove.
Woodmen Circle.
A miscellaneous shower was given
by Mrs. Emma B. Manchester, su
preme guardian, woodmen urcie,
Wednesday evening at her home tor
Miss Bertha M. Karr, one of the
clerks in her office, whose marriage to
Guy Hague took place the following
day. Many useful and pretty gifts
were presented, among them a picture,
"Diana's Sanctuary," by Mrs. Man
chester and the clerks of her office. A
cut glass fruit dish was given by three
supreme officers, who were visiting
Mrs. Manchester. '
Loyal Order of Moose.
The regular meeting of Central
lodge No. 90, Loyal Order of Moose,
held Wednesday evening, September
19, was of unusual interest, aside from
the initiation of candidates: On ac
count of the electrical parade there
will be no meeting next Wednesday
night, but the entertainmnt committee
has been instructed to make special
preparations for the entertainment of
the members on the next regular
meeting night, October 17. Super
visor A. B. Wimsett will be at the
meeting ana talk for the good of the
order.
Royal Neighbors.
: The Benson Royal Neighbors cele
brated the fifth anniversary Thursday
evening with an entertainment con
sisting of a program of readings,
music and tableaux, dancing and sup
per for the members.
Odd Fellows.
Benson Belle Rebekah lodge cele
brated its anniversary with the Odd
Fellows Friday evening at a social
following the regular session for the
families and members of both lodges.
Refreshments were served.
Takes Court Action to
Get Possession of Child
Mrs. Alma Zerbst, wife of Frank
Zerbst, a rancher of Newcastle; Wye
has begun habeas corpus proceedings
in district court in an attempt to ob
tain custody of her 9-year-old daugh
ter, Esther Gieselman, living with her
grandfather and grandmother, Mr.
and Mrs. William Gieselman, 1558
South Eighteenth street
The child is a daughter by a for
mer marriage. Mrs. Zerbst alleges
her daughter is being "unlawfully de
prived of her liberty by her grand
parents.

Railroads Running Into Omaha
Will Be Able to Care for
Ak-Sar-Ben Traffic and
Troop, Trains.
Omaha roads are using a large part
of their passenger equipment in hand
ling troops, but most of the lines are
going to be able to hustle together
enough coaches so that they will be
able to handle the vast crowds that
are expected to come to Omaha next
week to participate in the Ak-Sar-Ben
festivities. While special trains may
not be as numerous as during for
mer carnival seasons, extra coaches
will be put on enough of the regular
trains so that the crowds will be han
dled in and out of. the city.
For the electrical parade Wednes
day night the Burlington will run two
special trains in from Lincoln. The
fitst will leave there at 5 o'clock in
the evening, doing local business, and
Teaching Omaha at 6:50. The second
special will leave Lincoln at 5:45 and
will run to Omaha without making in
termediate stops.
After the parade the Burlington will
run three' specials west, the first leav-,
ing at 10:20. the second 10:40, and
the third 11:30.. A. special train will
come from Plattsmouth, running by
way of Louisville and Bellevue. Re
turning, this train will depart at 11
o'clock. All regular trains from the
east, south and west will carry extra
equipment and generally will do local
business.
At 10:45, after the carade, the
Northwestern will run a special as
far east as Carroll, la., and at 10:30
a special will run to Lincoln by way
of Fremont, stopping at all stations.
The Union Pacific will run a spe
cial out as far as Columbus, leaving
at 11:45, and going over the main line.
For the afternoon parade, Thursday,
a special will be run as far as Grand
Island, leaving at 5:15 and making
stops at all "stations west of Fremont.
Over .the Missouri Pacific, the night
of the electrical parade, a special will
go out from the Webster street depot.
leaving at 10:15, running as far as
Auburn and going by way of Louis
ville, Weeping Water and Talmage.
No. 106 over the main line will be
held until 11:30 and will carry coaches
behind the sleepers.
Janitors and Charwomen
Get Raise in Their Pay
. The democratic county board voted
another raise in pay for the loyal
legion of janitors and scrubwomen
at the court house Saturday. This is
the crew of mop wielders and floor
polishers installed by the commission
ers when the democrats got the con
trolling vote on the board. Mop "ar
tists" of other party affiliations were
lost in the shuffle.
Under the latest raise voted -by the
board janitors receive $2.75 a day and
scrubwomen $2.50 a day. Other
raises were voted for clerks and
stenographers in county court and
juvenile "court.
