Boston, Sept 21. Chicago made its
capture of the 1917 American league
pennant a certainty today by defeat
ing Boston, its nearest rival, 2 to 1, in
ten-innings. - " s
.Should Boston win all its remaining
twelve games and Chicago lost all the
eifht contests scheduled for it, the
final standing of the teams would
show Chicago leading by half a game

theran parsonage in Auburn by Rev.
Mr. Ritzen this week. Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Morris were witnesses to the
ceremony, Mrs. Shefferd is the daugh
ter oj Mr. and Mrs. George H. Finer
man of Stella. The groom's parents
are dead and he is farming for him
self. ;
The young couple had planned a
wedding trip, but gave it up when the
groom's brother Frank received notice
recently to be ready for a call to the

William Keuhler of Milford, who was
elected principal of the high school
at Shubert was in the first draft and
has been called to the colors.

A Pacific Port, Sept. 21. Explosion
of a bomb in sacks of nitrate being
loaded on the Japenese passenger and
freight steamer Seiyo Maru at Iqui
cjue, Chili, killed two persons and in
jured ten, it was reported on the ar
rival of the vessel today. After the
blast four other bombs were found.

Pasadena, Cal., and others told of
the attempt to wreck the vessel.' Rey.
Reeder said a German painter work
ing near the pier where the Seiyo
Maru was docked had been arrested
following the explosion and that a box
of dynamite and bombs had been
found in his house. The steamer left
while the Chilean authorities were
investigating, he said.
Those killed included two soldiers
who were loading the nitrate onto a
lighter which conveyed it to the ves
sel, passengers said.
An examination of the other sacks
of nitrate revealed the remaining sul
phuric acid bombs concealed in fruit
cans, according to the reports.

An accident happened west of here
as a result of which John Hill had his
right elbow dislocated and Cecil
Graul wa5 cut on the right hand and

legs. They had gone to Hastings in

cial.) Word reached here last eve
ning of the accidental death of Con
ductor K. ECleavelan'd by being
caught between two cars at Rulo,

He was a veteran conductor on the
