ROURKES DIVIDE
WITH HUTCHINSON
Fa's Pets Capture First Clash,
But Drop Second Contest
to Holland's Crew in
the Mad.
Omaha divided a double-header
with Hotchinson yesterday afternoon.
The Rourkes won the first game, 4 to
0, and lost the second, 8 to 5.
The first game consisted of four
and a half innings. Old Jup Pluv
made a social call in the fourth inning
and the athletes were pretty lucky to
play the fourth and the first half of
the fifth so as to make it a game and
a victory for Omaha.
Just as it became a ball game, old
Jup scattered his tears all over the
lot and the athletes were compelled
to duck for shelter. A lot of six-bit
patrons in the boxes were forced to
act likewise. The six-bit patrons had
to take cover in grandstand seats and
lose a quarter, while the two-bit cus
tomers in the bleachers made a gain.
For over an hour the athletes re
mained huddled in their dugouts. In
the meantime the allotted period was
up, so that the first game went to
Omahaand the athletes prepared to
play the second contest. They did so
in a sea of mud.
Homer on a Single.
The Rourkes won the first game in
the first inning. Woodpecker Wil
liams gave the round a flying start
with a single and took second on
Diltz' error. Miller drew a walk.
Shaw sent a single to left and Wil
liams scored. Diltz let the pill trickle
through him and it rolled clear to
the fence, while both Miller and Shaw
raced around the runway to score.
Shaw's walk and steal and a couple
of errors gave-Omaha another run in
the third. A 1
Mcrz was in good form during the
five innings he hurled in the first game
and the Salt Packers could not touch
him.
Attempts to Repeat.
. But Men attempted to repeat in
the second game and the rest evident
ly put him on the blink, for the enemy
landed on his curves with a vengeance
and drove him from the mound in the
fourth inning. Luschen finished the
game and pitched good ball, but the
damage had been done.
Mr McCabe was largely instrumen
tal in the ruination of Merz. With
three men on bases in the second
inning he slammed a double into
right, scoring two runs. In the fourth
hehit a home run with two men on.
Omaha struggled nobly, but the
margin wm too much to overcome.
No game is scheduled for Omaha
today. Tuesday Wichita comes for
a series.

Jack M,eyers Returns to
Omaha from California
Jack Meyers, alias Romanoff, well
known Omaha heavyweight wrestler
who was Adolph Ernst's right hand
man until Marin Flestina came along
and ruined Ernst and lost . Meyer's
job for him in the doing, has returned
to Omaha from the coast.
When Ernst went to the coast and
assumed . the nam . of Ad Santel,
Meyers hied himself thence and took
the cognomen of Romanoff. Ernst
and Meyers had a gay time in Cali
fornia and made a cleaning. But
when Plestina put Ernst out of busi
ness the goose which laid the golden
egg for Meyers had been killed, so
Jack resumed his regular name and
pulled his freight for Nebraska.
Meyers is now helping Plestina
train for his Labor day match with
foe Stecher. Meyers is also looking
or a match. aHe can be reached in

PEACE NOTE MAKES
BERLIN UNEASY
Austrian Ambassador Declares
Entente Nations Soon Will
Knock Aside War
Statesmen.
Copenhagen, Aug. 19. It is reporN
ed here that the sentiment of the
members of the Reichstag main com
mittee, which meets Tuesday for the
first time since the -recent cabinet
changes, is in favor of a discussion of
Pope Benedict's peace note.
The pontiff's action has naturally
swung the wavering Centrists back
into line on the Reichstag's peace
resolution which Chancellor Michaelis
will present at the meeting of the
new cabinet.
Prince von Hohenloehe-Schilling-furst,
Austrian ambassador at Berlin,
delivered a peace talk at the German
emperor's birthday reception at the
embassy. He said that the day of
peace could not longer be far distant
and that the good sense of the entente
people must soon knock aside the
statesmen who were barring a way to
peace.
Will Not Discuss Trieste.
x He added that meanwhile the cen
tral powers, who were not fighting to
make annexations by violence, would
not drop their weapons a second be
fore the. entente governments aban
doned their piratical aims.
The Nieue Freie Presse, comment
ing on the peace note, declares that
the question of Trieste is absolutely
not to be discussed by the Austrians,
who have defended the city with their
German comrades in ten bloody Ison
zo battles anf refuse to be robbed of
their possessions by any negotiations
