Waters, Bessie Kellar from Alfred Kellar, Mary Dougherty from Andrew Dougherty. Threw' Dishes at Him Charles A. Brown, suing Edith Brown for divorce In district court, alleges she threw dishes at him and refused to prepare his meals. He also accuses her of carrying on "affairs" with other men. They were married February 19, 1916. Musical Dealers Coming The Rome hotel has booked the retail musical dealers' convention for Omaha on Au gust SO. The dealers to the number of 150 will gather in Omaha, and, combining business with pleasure, will spend a day here. The culmination of the day's events will be the banquet in the evening at the Hotel Rome. SOUTH SIDE RESTAURANT MAN , IS BADLY BRUISED Physical Encounter With Al leged Partner Results in the Aggressor Partici . pant Pined in Court. Nick Johns, restuarant owner at 49Q3 South Twenty-fourth street, ap peared in South Side police court this morning bruised and battered and testified that Sam Nicholas, who had never paid a cent in on the restuarant. but who called himself "partner" and acted like the owner, had told him that he would run him out of busi ness and had enforced his words by beating him on the head with a chair. Nicholas, big and muscular, testi fied: "I wash-my face and go in to eat breakfast,' I say nice soft words to hirri. I no hit him with chair. I only push him in his face with my hand," and he doubled up his fist and shoved it under the nose of the judge in illustration of the gentle pusk he had given his" "partner." "Didn't you steal from your own 17-year-old brother?" "Haven't you been taking advant age of your countrymen who don't know much about business?" "Didn't you get 'in bad' in l'latts mouth?" "Aren't you just a common crook?" Prosecutor Anheuser, who said he has the man's !'number," fired these questions at him. Nicholas was fined $50 and, costs. Home-Cured Hams Cause Investigation on South Side "We don't pay much attention to "fellows with big bank rolls or a string of diamonds, but a fellow with two home-cured hams surely arouses sus picion," said Desk Sergeant Smith, as he wrote a description of the man who tried to sell two hams at the home of Moses Godford, Twenty-eighth and Harrison, streets, this morning. "Two hams represents too much wealth. We can hardly believe that a man could accumulate so much honestly, so we shall investigate it," said the police. The man was dark complected and smooth shaven. He is probably some 30 years old and weighs about 165 pounds. South Side Boys Receive . Commissions in the Army Two South Side boys, Jay C. Lef ler and John C. Shultz, jr., have been given commissions in the army. Both boys are at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Lefler is in the engineers' training camp and has received his commis sion as first lieutenant. Shultz has been commissioned as second lieu tenant. Lefler is a graduate of Bellevue col lege and studied engineering at the University of Nebraska. He was as sistant city engineer of South Umaha Morton Degen, New Officer, Presented With Wrist Watch Morton Degen, son of Sol L. Degen of the firm of We-theimer & Degen of the South Omaha Live Stock ex change, has been made a second lieu tenant in the cavalry. He will be ordered to Camp Dodge soon. Friends and business associates of young Degen presented him with a wrist watch yesterday. Colonel James A. Bulla made the presenta tion speech. South Side Fishermen Back After Vacation in North Andy Carlson, Gus Stevens and Os car Salquist returned Wednesday from a fishing trip to Minnesota. They made the trip in an automobile and were gone five weeks. They visited Diamond lake and Lake Koronis and Bass lake. Salquist caught a five-pound bass, and he and Stevens said they caught forty-two crappie in less than a half hour. South Side Pushmobile Races to Be Held Sunday Boys of Morton park will hold their annual pushmobile race on Sunday afternoon at Thirtyninth and L streets. The race will be called at 2 o'clock. In connection there will be running and hoop races for boys and girls. Boy Scouts will render first aid to any that may be injured. Burglars Make Successful Raid on South Side Shop Pop, cigars and chewing gum were stolen from a grocery store at 5520 South Thirtieth street early Thurs day morning. ' The burglars took five pounds of chewing gum, 500 cigars, 800 cigarets, five pounds of chewing tobacco, six bottles of pop and $2.50 in cash. South Side Brevities. Dr. C. M. Day and wife have gone on an automobile trip to Dei Moines, la. Dr. W. A. Cox returned Wednesday from a two weeks' visit to Minnesota lakes.
