MILITARY DAY TODAY. Today ', is "Military Day" at Rourke park. ' " '- All soldiers' in uniform will be admitted to the park free this after noon as the guests of Pa Rourke, owner and manager of the Omaha club. , The Fort Crook military band will play. and officers will occupy boxes.- ' The park will be decorated with flags and efforts made to make the afternoon a real military affair. All Omaha fans are urged to turn out in honor of the event. The game starts at 3:15. Babe Adams, who at this writing stands as about the, classiest hurler in the Western league, was in no mood to permit any promiscuous hitting yesterday, . ,T,his explains why ..Omaha lost to Hutchinson, 2 to 0. Old Man' Adams' certainly wars in fine form yesterday, lie had the Rourkes guessing all of the time He allowed but three hits and did not is sue a pass. As his mates gave ihm gilt-edged support, it can plainly be seen why not a Rourke runner got past second base. Fin Yardley was the Only memberol Pa's Pets who! refused to let Adams worry him.' Fin rapped Babe for two of the three hits made by the Rourkes. Ben Shaw maneuvered the other. Also Yardley was. the "only gent who got to second. Fin made it twice, once on a single arid attear-and the second time on a single and Brottem s sacrifice. He was left howling for help both times. ' . . , . , Park is Thumped. . ( i Hutchinson pounded Park rather soundly. McCabe's double, Benson's sacrifice and McClellan's single scored one for the Salt Packers iiv the open ing stanza. That was plenty to cop the game.but they added one more in the third for good measure. McClel lan opened the third with a -double and scored on Faulk's single. The Rourkes were a little crippled because Marty Krug was out of the game. Marty was spiked in the ankle' Thursday and was hobbling around on a cane yesterday. Yardley, whose reg ular job U rightficld, filled in at short in nifty fashion, Ward Miller was shifted to right field and Woodpecker Williams, the most enthusiastic ath lete in tapiiviryY was allowed to play left field with the aid of a first base man's mitt. Woody made a couple of swell catches with the; said, first base " man's mitt, too. ':. MORE FASTHORSES FOR OMAHA CLASSIC Fred, Meyer, Eeprtsenting Lo cal Driving Club, Lines Up Several Stars for Ben son Races. Fred Meyer, horsenian and garage owner, has returned from the east, where he represented the Omaha Driving club'at several harness' horse meetings. Mr. Meyei, as official emissary of the club, that will stage the season's banner . race meeting on the Great Western circuit at Benson track next week, was successful in lining up sev eral stars which otherwise might have passed Omaha by. A careful observer of every heat of every race at the Peoria, 111., Great Western circuit races, Mr. Meyer was able to "get the number'.' of several of the speed merchants nominated to burn up the Benson twice-around. "While the Peoria meeting was un doubtedly one of the fastest and clean est ever held in the United States, horsemen all over the country are looking to Omaha to put on the really headline season of harness events, he said. "Horsemen in all of the big racing centers plan to make Omaha their mecca next week. Several spe cial trains will come in from the east, I was assured." Records Expected Here.' y At Ottawa, 111., on the Central Val ley circuit, one of the fast loops of the Illinois country, Mr. Meyer saw the iamous heat in which Lillian. T.. one of thi. starters in the free-for-all pace at the opening 'day's races in Omaha Tuesday, beat Coleen in the, clipper time of 2:0514. Ottawa has a half mile track. . , . "Horsemen generally are looking for records to go by the boards at the Omaha meeting, declared the driving club's representative. Mr. Meyer was all praise for the way Peoria city officials and racing men' treated Great Westefn circuit visitors. '!'They handed, us the keys of the city" and we used them. Next to Mayor Dahlman, Mayor Woodruff of Proria is .the most hospitable city dad I've ever met." Ducklings Set Unique ' Mark for Western League Lincoln, Neb., Aug. 17.
